Smile Technology these days.

Okay, practically all you guys have cell phones. Cell phones come with a variety of features, including a camera and text messaging. Those features are fine, but cell phones have gone way overboard. Like Blackberries. The organizer feature is fine, but do you really need the web on your phone? Seriously. All these special dietitians and scientists all say that everybody needs to get active and get fit. Besides that, Americans have a really bad obesity problem. I mean, I know some people are just naturally bigger, but what about those people who had taken up eating as a pastime and started getting bigger. That isn't natural. That could be caused by other problems, such as depression, but it can also be caused by laziness, and cell phones are making us lazier and lazier, to some people. I mean, mobile TV. We don't need that. And HDTV sometimes attracts people to the TV more that excersizing. I'm not saying the TV's are really bad, but I think cell phones are.
Bottom line, you don't need to get a TV and the web on your cell[especially myspace mobile]. Just get the standard stuff, like a camera, text, etc. Hey, you might not even want that. Your call. So put down the technology and start excersizing!

Having the web on the phone should actually encourage movement. Not being in front of a computer screen, the phone allows movement. The Japanese have had web on their phones for years now, and they are pretty skinny. This doesn't involve much thinking so wrong thread.

Well...it seems that while cell phones and text messaging may not have made you physically lazy, you can't say you aren't a little more lazy in other areas.

Americans are lazy by nature. Without technology, all they have to do is work a little harder to be lazy, which they have always been willing to do before science made laziness easier for them.

OK. People eat because they want to, get obese and it's their own fault. If you eat enough to become obese, you are going to do it with or without technology. I love HDTV. If people's PDAs didn't have the internet capabilities, how would you be able to watch porn on the subway? Come on. What do you have against cell phones with the web? People do actually use that for things like checking their stock prices and other work related things. Exercising is a person's own decision and has nothing to do with technology. Like Fish just said, if you are lazy and don't feel like exercising, you aren't going to exercise if you have technology, and you aren't going to exercise if you don't have it.

I don't see why it's pin-pointed specifically on Americans when countries like Japan and Great Britain are way ahead of us technology wise.

I really see no problem with technology though, it's basically just another tool for human beings to use for whatever reason, whether it be talking, researching, etc.

Just got back from Taco Bell, and this thread made me lol, because there were about 9 people waiting in the drive through line, all talking on cell phones, so I walk inside, and theres NO ONE in line, just goes to show people would much rather sit on their asses than get up and make a 15 foot walk to the counter.

Yeah, I guess having technology does make people lazy in some aspects, but aside from that, there's really no other problem with it. I think having most of these things is really a good idea. xD

I mean, imagine being back about 20 years, and those of us in younger generations just wouldn't survive without the things we have now. Computers (internet), cell phones, printers, etc.

It just makes work easier for us, and especially devices used in the home, because otherwise, most mothers would probably be at home most of the day cleaning up and stuff, the old fashioned way, which takes up a lot of time, but with these tools, women like my mom can go out for like half the day and work and then come back and help us with homework and cooking, while my brothers and I do the chores and laundry, etc. Saves A LOT of time.

But yeah, I understand kids have become lazier now because of all the video games, toys, etc. that are used inside the home, but.. that's their own decision, and that's why they have parents. Parents who aren't stupid enough to let their children stay inside and waste their lives for hours on the television, Wii, etc. They put restrictions on them, and if they don't do that, then they really suck as parents and they're raising their children to be fatass lazy bastards. :/

You can't stop technological advancements. Even if America was getting fatter just because of technology, there would be no difference in our technology advancing.

I need to get a cell phone. Just need a phone though, not a camera personal organizer web browsing thingy. I also agree on the drive through thing. I, most of the times, just get up and go in.

you provide an excellent arguement yet u do not realise it is the consumer's fault with obesity and laziness... A cellphone doesnt need the web ill agree but it doesnt mean just because it doesnt need it that it shouldnt be available... someone may want to surf the web while on an airplane.. who knows? mobile tv's have anything to do with a laziness or obesity problem? im sorry that while im driving for 8hours in a car that i want to have the family entertained instead of being as bored as I am driving. but i dont see how that causes laziness... or obesity... Hdtv can attract people to a tv more but is it our fault that we may want to watch a football game with alittle better graphic? or some video games only run on hdtv... lets say ffr could only be played on a hdtv... i sure as hell am going to use the hdtv so i may access something i find enjoyable... it is all in the hands of the consumer... no ones forcing them to sit and watch tv or be lazy... they are choosing to do it

Ya i agree sometimes it sucks for people with "large" families (chubby, overweight, whatever you wanna call it) or that are naturally big, but obesity can be helped. Unless you have some sort of chronic illness that forces you to eat unhealthy foods constantly, which to me is unheard of, it's most likely your own fault. I like exercise because it's a challenge to myself not physically, but mentally. To me being fit and strong or fat and lazy is a mental thing. If you put your mind to it you can stay relatively fit, in order for people to weigh 400 lbs and have 40% body fat (rough estimate, i don't know for sure how much body fat overly obese people have) they have to pretty much TRY to. You just don't get that big naturally...

But anyways, i think technology is how it is used. If people use wireless mobile internet to do something stupid in class or at work instead of doing what they're supposed to, that is abuse of a good thing. My phone is old and junkie, but it has text messaging...(Only feature basically, I have to log on my computer to even see picture messages) That is enough for me, but i wouldn't mind having mobile internet for doing a research project in class or on the bus. TV on phones is a wonderful idea, such as for weather, sports, and other things. But if it's misused it can be a bad thing.

Bottom line: Technology is a gray area, but i believe it is how the person uses it.
