The good thing about kid-bands is their gimmick won't last more than a few years.

OK, I went and took a listen to all of the bands you mentioned, and Tiny Masters too. I have to agree that they all suck except for Squish. I cannot judge a band by their name because I have heard some awesome groups with names that suck suck suck. Smoosh is a perfect example of girls with rich parents that have more money than talent. I did a little searching on them and somehow they got the drummer for Deathcab to be their drum teacher. Too bad those lessons didnt take. The voices are even worse. Little to no control and really annoying keyboard parts. All in all, they cant write play or sing... so why are they popular? Mommy and Daddys money!!!
Squish - - Although the names are eerily similar, their styles and talent level couldnt be more different. Are you guys on this thread even listening to the music> Get past the cheap recording equipment and listen to some of the music. I took a look at their sites and they have some videos that put older musicians to absolute shame. Geez, these kids play better than most any live band I have heard that arent signed with major labels. They did the right thing and didnt let a little boy take on the lead singing parts with the prepubescent voice like other kid wanna be rock bands do. THey have a girl with a voice that actually sounds old enough to drive. The other bands mentioned dont have a shred of a chance against Squish in a battle of the kid bands. Chances are, if they end up big, they may turn out like Hanson and New Kids on the Block and peak at the age of 16 and then fall into the dark corners of the music biz playing small clubs to make ends meet. So, yeah, you are all right about these kid bands, but I have to give props to Squish. Hopefully their style can break free from the talentless punk and screamo crap that is plaguing the world. The comment about the kid saying, "I can probablyplay guitar better than their guitarist." just shows that he doesn't know what he's talking about. In his words, they're, "utter trash" but he can probably play better guitar! So, now I'm wondering where I can listen to "g4z33b0" play guitar and all his friends who drum, cause I'm sure if they are good as they say they are they have a CD out, like Squish and get paid gigs like Squish, right?

Having a CD out and playing gigs does not make an artist. Pull your head out your ass, you half-wit. Playing a three-powerchord riff makes those kid bands talentless retards, not musicians. I can play many of Steve Vai's solos with ease, yet I don't have a recording contract or a CD out. Does that make me a ****ty musician? If there ever was an award for supreme stupidity, you've most admirably earned it. |

So there's some 18 year old know it all. Hhmmm...never seen one of those before. So what makes you a musician is ripping on other musicians right? They are ONLY 11, and 12 years old you dork! Regardless, they have talent, they're young and have done more than it sounds like you ever will.

What makes me a musician is the fact that I'm skilled and classically trained on three instruments, and I'm skilled at composition. I've bought my own equipment and know how to use it to its full potential. I'm training to become even better. They are young, stupid, and talentless. They'll never make it. You think they have anything going for them other than the novelty of their age? And I find it particularly interesting how you also tell me based upon the fact that I dislike them that I won't get anywhere. How about this: When I do make it, I'll give you a special position shining my shoes. Blow me. Last edited by OrganisM; 04-19-2007 at 06:00 PM.. |

Oh, sorry, I had NO idea this was your forum. How rude of me to "march" in here and voice my opinions. If you think I'm insulting you about your age, you might want to take a look back on everything you wrote about kid bands.
Who's insulting who based on age? They are young, that's right. Stupid? Can't answer that and you shouldn't assume something like that. That's just childish name calling. Whether they've made "it", that's to be determined. What, they've been a band like 8 months? Can't accept your job offer, sorry. Need shiny shoes? What? Do you dance too? |

I listened to The Flaming Monkeys, and they were bearable, but nowhere near good enough that I would buy anything from them. I listened to Smoosh, and the singer seriously needed to go through puberty and give it another go. If I only had the music to go by, I would have difficulty determining the singer's gender. Good try, now get off the mic. I'm currently listening to Squish, which is difficult to do, seeing as I have to simultaneously not vomit on my speakers. I suck at most instruments, but I guarantee I could sing better than any of those children. |

In addition, you insulted me solely based upon age. It does not matter if they were thirty years old, their music is garbage and requires no talent. The only reason they exist is because of their age. The fact that they are still kids makes their playing in a band a novelty, even if their playing sucks. And it allows for their parents to conveniently pay for everything. Careful what you say about the offer now; I might be too hot to extend it again someday. And another thing, this is the Tiny Masters' claim to fame, straight from their website: "In the intervening years, their sound has matured to the point where several songs actually exceed one minute in length." Congrats for supporting the cookie-cutter mediocrity of the industry. Churning out albums and singles at a young age instead of getting to be any good? How can you compare the skills of real bands to these pitiful excuses for musicians? And for whichever band it was that has had two or three albums released already when the kids are 14 years old, ouch. That's pathetic. They're contributing to the loads of **** the industry has been clogged up with. Interesting how society adores mediocrity, as do you. Last edited by OrganisM; 04-19-2007 at 06:46 PM.. |

Listened to all of them. Oh boy.
Smoosh - Singer sucks. Badly. No excuse, I've heard good kid singers before. And it's not just because he/she (lol) hasn't gone through puberty, it just sounds completely unprofessional. Music is okay...at times. At other times, it's pretty darn bad. Piano needs A LOT of work. Squish - Not too great, but definitely not the worst. Music is stale. Singing...eh. Not the worst of the bunch. It is slightly sub-par though. Flaming Monkeys - Quite tolerable. They need to concentrate on singing more than yelling, though. The song I listened to...Till I drop...that was better than I expected. They just REALLY need to refrain from yell-singing, it ruined it completely. It's still possible to put emotion into songs without doing what they did. Tiny Masters of Today - No. JUST NO. Singing, WORST. OH MY GOD HORRID. No emotion, off-key, and unprofessional. Just HORRIBLE. I cannot stress that enough. Make sure you have emotion if you want to write a song called "Stickin' it to the man". Ok. I was typing this while I had some of their music on so I could better review their music. I just gagged. I'm not even kidding. I'm talking about "Stickin' it to the man". If anybody else here listened to this particular one, I can only hope you made it through okay. Sticking it. to the maaaaaaaan. stickin to the maaaaaaaaaan. stickin it to the maaaaaaaaan. Every daaaaaaaaaaay. AND ALL OF IT IS OFFKEY. And their chords make me cringe. And they play the same damn chord again through the whole song. Every 4 seconds. That is a LOT of cringing. They are utterly hopeless. UTTERLY. CAPITALIZATION. Ratings because I feel like it. Smoosh - 3.5/10 Squish - 3.5/10 Flaming Monkeys - 5/10 (Just stop yelling please. I don't care if your genre is punk rock.) Tiny Masters of Today - 1.5/10 |

AcaciaRain. I say "probably" only because I haven't taken a guitar lesson in around 3 months, and if I said "I can definitely play better then them", it wouldn't be true, seeing as I have no basis for that statement. The probably is just my own comparison of my skill against theirs.
http://www.myspace.com/thescarletdivide - My friend Nick, Kevin, and Ben's band. In my opinion they are much better then any of the bands in the first post. oh. Last edited by g4z33b0; 04-19-2007 at 08:15 PM.. |
