Syncing is the simfile artist's job.

It's different for FFR. Yes, the simfile artist syncs (or at least should) the simfile and then sends it in. But once it gets put in the game, you have to sync the arrows to the frames in the game. So the person that puts the song into the game has to sync it as well

Why won't they let you do this?

You ask them, I tried a few months ago. It's so much easier for me to sync the simfiles myself rather than complain to Tass every time a simfile comes up, and have to have him change it 2 - 5 times, having me test it EACH TIME and it STILL won't get perfect. I don't complain when it gets to a certain point because I know he wouldn't change it by a very small number. I'd spend an hour syncing each simfile if I had to, but I know it wouldn't take more than 10 minutes

How are 3 simfile judges going to speed things up anyway? I don't get it, at all. |

Three simfile judges can only improve the chances of bad files being rejected and hood ones getting in hopefully.

It speeds stuff up for Tass because he doesn't have to play the garbage files.
Also, adding JX to the team was my idea, not Tass's (surprisingly).

and clearly rebirth has no idea how syncing files actually works in FFR. if he did, he'd be off my case about how long it takes to sync them.

I've asked before, you wouldn't tell me anything. I asked shash before, he wouldn't tell me anything.
Why don't you explain it then? |

adding files is a complicated process... and changing the sync means re-doing the entire process. each time.
-start by changing the gap, which is how we sync. i've found that 9/10 times, a -40 from the SM gap gives proper sync in FFR... no idea why, but that's that. -then, throw the .dwi into the converter. it spits out a .ffr file, which is how we need the notes listed to work on it further. -throw the data from inside the .ffr into a skeleton .fla file that i have in flash, in a specific place. -import in the mp3 into a different specific place in the .fla, and adjust the frames to fit the length of the mp3. -export it as a .swf and also save it as a .fla for future changes. -create the information that will be displayed on the webpage. -upload the .swf. -test the .swf in FFR... if it is in sync, end here. -if not in sync, repeat every step except those dealing with the mp3s. also add in that your have to clear your cache with each re-trial so that you are reloading the newly uploaded version of the .swf. basically... sync has NOTHING to do with working it around in FFR. it is messing with the gap way back in the .dwi.... and even then, getting it to within 33ms will have SOME frames in sync, and others be off by 1 frame. which makes it really hard to get PERFECT sync. because if you're 11ms off, then 2/3 of the arrows are going to be on sync and 1/3 will be off by 1 frickin frame. AND... i HAVE asked Rebirth before for his assistance on syncing files... i don't understand why you think that I haven't. If i can't get ahold of Shash, I ask Rebirth or jx or Smitty or Kit or whoever i can find online to verify it for me. it just is really really hard for them to give me a precise answer, because they don't completely understand what i need to know to fix it. Shash does.

I know it's all about the gap. We've talked many times about this on AIM, testing the sync of the subscriber songs as you put them in. I do somewhat tell you how much to change it, but when it's not me that's changing everything and it's someone else, there's a high chance of me being wrong. If I had the files to work on by myself, I could get a more accurate estimate and better yet, if I make a mistake I can go back through and change it quickly and as many times as I need. It seems like we rush things when testing the way you've been doing it. You always sound like you don't have the time to spend making this perfect. Well I do.
It doesn't matter how good you are at the game when it comes to syncing. You let Shash deal with the syncing once it gets to a certain point, and I don't know if he ever did take over from these certain points but I never notice any differences. I think we're all testing by how close the notes are to the music by playing the game. But there are a bunch of people that look at the arrows rather than listen to the music and play that way. Shash probably plays both ways, but I know that he has to play by looking at the arrows once they near the top because he wouldn't have the accuracy he has without doing it. It's why I'm not AAAing stuff. That and a slow scroll rate. Stepping and syncing TGWP for 40 hours made me notice EVERYTHING when it comes to sync. I know how and where to change everything, but I have to do it myself to have it turn out good. I said before that if I was given a chance to sync stuff for the game, and failed by the end of the second week then you could ban me and never let me return. I'll still take that bet |

you aren't going to get the chance to do the sync yourself. the interface we use to do it on the FFR side gives you access to EVERYTHING. you could literally delete every file on FFR.
and you doing it yourself vs telling me what you think should be changed... zero difference. every single change ever told to me has been done. please continue helping by telling me which files you feel are offsync... and then give me a correct change, in ms, to fix it. telling me its off doesn't do me jackcrap unless you can tell me how much to change it.

Then be expected to change it .005 if needed
Why would I want to delete any of the files in FFR? I know you're not wanting to take chances, but that's just stupid. I think you should know me by now |

-5 will make a minor change to 1/6 of the arrows in the file and will do nothing to the rest. And you have no way of knowing which 1/6 they'll be. What would be the point of that?

no! don't **** with the gap yourself. please. all you'll do is screw up the timing in SM to be off... which will likely get your file rejected. OR... it'll then later **** up my timing when i go to change it manually when i'm adding it to FFR.
don't **** with the gap yourself. that was NOT what i was saying at all.

Some songs start late or early or w/e, so sometimes I have to change the gap to over a second to make it steppable. Otherwise I usually just make it 0.4
