Re: How powerful is the human mind?
hmm thats not really helpfull considering you can put more or less info on each page by simply writing bigger or smaller or if the pages of the text book are different sizes (unless there is a standard size for text books) or even by using simpler or more complex sentences that use clauses.
ex. the dog is red. the dog ran. the dog belongs to joe. vs. joe's red dog ran. you could get a lot more info on pages if you make the sentences more complex so how do they define the amount of info per page? |

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
Well, To the "how can we be in this state of mind 24/7" Alot of people have answered "drugs" this is true in some ways but the affects of drugs do wear off over time. However, if you do enough, you can perma-trip so to speak. There is also the possibilty of taking adrenalin itself. It is very hard to come by and very expensive, Given they have to extract it from a dead human body. Legally you cant obtain it. One little drop with give you an intense adrenalin rush. So i assume if you could get your hands on a bottle of such, You would be able to maintain such a state of mind for a good while, As long as you dont blow your heart up.
On the 10% question.. "Although folklore would have it that about 90% of the human brain is dormant, this has proven scientifically unfounded. The fact that ~10% of neurons in the brain fire at any one time is a possible source of this misconception. (If a large percentage of the neurons were to fire at the same time, the result would be a grand mal seizure.)" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_brain#Function Something else i found intresting on there as i read on was about learning, and hypnosis "Learning can't be achieved more powerfully through subliminal techniques: Technically, information that is entirely subliminal cannot be perceived at all. The extent to which subliminal techniques can influence learning depends largely on what level of perception the techniques affect." " Hypnosis can't lead to perfect recall of details: Not only is this not entirely true, an incompetent or deceptive hypnotist can actually implant (deliberately or unintentionally by leading questions) false memories of events that never occurred. This is because memory is not stored as "facts", but as impressions, and emotions, and is often reinterpreted as people mature or change." Back to the orginal question... I am very surprized no one has brought up any mention of the subconscious. There is alo to type out about it so instead.. another link! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subconscious Also, Think of all the claims of ESP, telekinesis.. The of the millions of dollars spent researching these so called "unexplainable phenomina of the brain" woudl they really waste so much time and effort if there was not reason to believe these things do exsist as well as many creditable sources who claim to have experienced, or Witenessed such things.. Here are a few more links.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychokinesis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extra-sensory_perception

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
The brain certainly has to power to cause things like somatoform disorders. Ex: a man who has to give a speech and who has a fear of public speaking may lose the use of his vocal chords. Even if he really tried to speak, he wouldn't be able to.
Now, my question is, if we can cause problems like this, can we make ourselves fix things like broken bones or even cancer? If we can organize our body to not feel pain or to lose the functioning of our leg muscles, what's to keep us from eventually being able to make our own cells fix specific things? |

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
Oh no, I do know. He is. He doesn't have any 'psychic' abilities. He's more or less just a good performer >__>
If you want to see someone who is far better than Geller, watch Derren Brown. Some of his videos are on youtube and he is udderly amazing. But willingly admits its all just him messing with you; he doesn't have any psychic or higher mental abilities some of us wish we had edit: here's a good one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKhN1Jfv_s8&NR=1 Here he is doing far better what lots of lame psychics claim to be able to do. It's all udder nonsense, he just uses suggestion and NLP in some cases and is udderly amazing at doing it. In these videos he explains what he's doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW2yKlNFFuU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFx4wHeCBFc&NR=1

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
Well...if the human mind wasn't powerful, we would not be here playing Wii's, chatting on cell phones, flying into space, building robots to do our vacuuming, or bringing this up on FFR, would we?

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
Well, that's just it. We wouldn't on normal occasions. Something about a dangerous situation or something of the like can push our brains as hard as they can go, giving our bodies what they need to perform a specific task.

I think wat ur speakin of is called an adrenaline rush. The mind pumps in extra hormones to fit the situation.

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
We use every part of brain, the 10% means we just don't use it to it's full extent = /

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
Wow, I'm not even going to berate all of your comments, it's just too easy. Those of you that are using wikipedia and your psychology books are 100% incorrect in just about every way possible, though ubercreep361 is pretty close to what i will say, just he simplified it to the extent that many important details are left out. I'm not even going to explain how you are all wrong, but if you really care, send me a PM and I'll give you about a 300 page essay about this.

Re: How powerful is the human mind?
Thats the point im trying to get across to you. Yes, we know what its called, and we know that it happens often when we are scared. But again, what I am wondering is; How would be be able to put ourselfs in this mind set when it didnt "fit the situation?" I dont know if what im saying doesnt make sense, it does to me.

Makes sense to me too. Unless we all could somehow learn mind over matter, we prolly couldn't. I'm serious.

Yeah, your probly right. I was just thinking how cool it would be if we actually could figure that out somehow. Maybe someday we will.
