Halo is popular because its easy...like really really easy. also because some believe the graphics are good. 1st thing: the graphics only matter if they're so bad that when aiming directly into the body and you shoot and miss...then theres a problem. CS:Source is better if you compare. Of course this is all oppinion based, but some things people have said in here like better weapons or something likke that is dumb because halo only has generics of weapons and not like different versions of smgs or rifles. The halo game got better with Halo2 because of changes in the physics and easier control. You can differenciate a good FPS from a bad FPS by simplicity of the game and the variety of weapons that not are only different because of the weapons but on how each weapon is better than the other in certain situations. Also as a side note anyone who attempts to snipe with a shotgun is a retard....and i've seen it all too often in halo. Ganted halo is fun, but its way too easy to noob with just about anything. You need a game where the weapons dont just overpower without any form of consiquence. CS is the perfect example of how it is done, with heavier weapons it changes how the character moves. More games should be like that. Ok im done ranting...end result is halo was slightly over-hyped. end of story. dont play it if your looking for something with challenge involved
and about 2 minutes after i realized that when you compare halo to cs it doesnt really work because both games have extreme weakpoints. Halo is too generic and noobed, while CS is repetitive as hell. I've played FPS games ranging from Doom to Battlefield (if you want to consider that FPS) to Red faction 1+2 to CS to Halo. basic conclusion is to stay away from console fps when you can. I dont mena just totally stay away because some can be good and we havent gotten very far yet. PCs are better becaues of the mouse...im sure most people would perfer a mouse and keyboard next to a Xbox controller if you were in a war. Someone should start a poll...lol

I'm going to have to disagree. The only reason that the Halo series is popular because of:
1. The game is one of the only first-person shooters to take a formula and do it well. By no stretch of the imagination is it innovative. This game is your run-of-the-mill generic space fps, but it does it well. That still doesn't justify the ****ty campaign mode and the awesome mulitplayer. 2. The multiplayer. End of story. On regards to Halo 3, since I hate the Halo series for it gameplay, I'm more excited about the soundtrack then anything else.

I think I played an Xbox live game with Synth once, I dont remember very well.
I actually played with some guy in Green Day (they told people they played halo and thier account names on their website) (also, don't ask me why I was there, I hate that band), and he SUCKED. Halo 1 has amazing campaign, but it is pretty much only fun on co-op. |

Controller vs mouse is a preference.. And I would assume in a real war you would not want a mouse or keyboard or a controller. While more difficult at first, you would be astonished at the ability some people have to use an analog controller. Some people (like CyanoticXTC.. hi Cy!) can go from walking around to zoomed in, aimed and headshot in about 1/8th of a second. Seriously, the guy is incredible with a sniper. It's like he doesn't even need to think about it. Again, this could be argued for eternity and that is fine. Just don't try to present opinions or speculation as if they are facts. Reading over what you said appears to show contradictions and false information. Cheers, Synthlight |

PC FPS games just aren't fun.
PC FPS ports to consoles are even worse. Console FPS ports to PC are also really bad. Console FPS games, however, are frequently quite fun, especially Halo. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

Everyone I talk to likes halo. If Halo was truly a bad game, no one would like it. Its your opinion that the game is bad but that doesn't give you the right to say that its a bad game and everyone who likes it are wrong. |

Synth mentioned me =O
Anyway, I've played a ton of FPS games.. Goldeneye and Halo have been the best ever for Multiplayer.. Call of Duty i've been playing lately, but it just seems to blow extremely.. Its not all that great... Gears of war, great single player and co-op.. but multiplayer is just unfun... 4v4 nonstop, just rounds? no fun there... and I agree with synth on CS.. CS is fun, but it just gets way too repetitive.. It seems like, the more people try to make a game more realistic, the more boring the game becomes.. Call of duty for example is nothing but players laying around in random places just waiting for someone to run by and get shot... theres no fun in that.. And the way they designed the leaderboards and multiplayers forces people to just camp around laying on the ground trying not to die.. Resistance for PS3, was a cool idea for multiplayer... but, it just isnt fun.. they put way too much focus into graphics and how your surroundings look rather than an actual fun game.. Halo 2 is best because the physics are just better... You can move around and jump easily.. Synth has called me a monkey just cause i love to jump all over the place while fighting. I've played the game for 3 years now off and on, and the only time it gets boring, is when there arent fun people around to play with ... Don't get me wrong, the campaign for halo 2 is horrendous, I can't stand it at all.. but Xbox Live mixed with halo 2... great ****. EDIT: I could almost promise anyone, that if they were to get in a game with me, Synthlight and our buddy Chamillion.. They would have a fun time and become addicted to the game.

Compare Halo/2 to a game like Quake 3, so deep, it's still played heavily in competition to this day. Just to show you what competitive play looks like, http://youtube.com/watch?v=zmItEP5fgDA Now tell me that Halo/2 can even compare to the depth of gameplay. |

Depth? What about Quake 3 is deep? I saw nothing "deep" about that video that Halo doens't have. Then again, you're also going to have to define "deep" since it doesn't make a whole lot of contextual sense. Play speed? Hahahahaha. Why would that make a good FPS? Oh, that's right, it doesn't. First of all, that's a quality of PC FPS's. Having to manipulate two small sticks with only your thumb is COMPLETELY different than throwing a mouse around with your entire hand. Many people play Halo as opposed to Q3 because it isn't retarded fast. I know I do. What, are you just jealous of Halo's popularity because it appeals to a broader base of players? Lastly, you mention a longer learning curve. Again, that isn't something that makes a game good. First of all, a shorter curve draws more people into playing the game. The gradual curve past that makes it easier for those people to continue playing and get better. Steep learning curves only push people away. The best Halo player is just as good skillwise as the best Quake 3 player. Quote:
You say Q3 is still being played in tournaments, but I guarantee you Halo's the main attraction at more, and will be for a long, long time. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |

You're trying to present your arguement as fact when it's clearly just a misguided opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjWthTfe2xs Wow, I can find a YouTube video of someone playing Halo 2 well! My arguement is water-tight!

I am however interested in your definition of deep when talking about about Quake 3. In your eyes, what makes it deep compared to a game like Halo2? Cheers, Synthlight |

Halo 2 is really easy to become good at. Halo was much harder and actually took skill to be a top player. Anyone who has played both games can easily see the difference in the learning curve.
The thing with Halo 2 is teamwork. Sure, it's really not that hard to out BR someone, or be an amazing sniper. To go to the next level, you need excellent communication, and you need to know the spawns and level inside and out. Both are pretty deep games and both are excellent FPS.

Am I reading this wrong? I have beenp laying Halo 2 since back when it came out, Me and my freind are pretty good(modesty). We compete in local competitions whenever we get the chance and I am still getting better all the time. I have friends that play on a regular basis (at least once a week) and I can still destroy them with my eyes closed. Halo 2 is really easy to become good at and really HARD to become one of the best. P.S. If any one wants to play with me on Xboxlive it's MagicCarpetRide SUPER P.S. What you say about Teamwork is definitely true, But I consider that a skill that you develop similar to being an amazing sniper or being able to double shot/Quad shot/ BxR every time. |

I played Halo because the campaign was fun, although I did play on the hardest setting; but more importantly, it was a great game for multiplayer. I could spend hours playing with my brother and friend.
Now I play Halo 2 Online everyday because it's fun. I've tried other games, like Gears of War and Need for Speed, but the one I enjoy the most is Halo 2. You can play ranked games for props against anyone in any type of game catagory you choose, and its a serious, no joke game, unless you play fun, unranked games like Team Swat. Another reason I like, is the creativeness you are allowed in making games. You can find almost any gametype to turn in to a custom game. Get a group of people. One starts out on the green team; the rest red. Red people can only use human weapons, and the green guy can only use a sword, as it is a melee weapon. When the green guy kills a red guy, the red guy must switch to the green team. Same rules apply. There you have Dawn of the Dead There are thousands of games you can setup and imagine, and its just an all around fun game. It's the game MADE for Xbox Live.

I hated Quake 3.
Anyways I liked the 1st Halos campaign and the 2nd Halos multiplayer and I like the soundtracks for both games. Other than that I hate everything else about Halo. I like FPS that are unigue in Gameplay and have different gameplay aspects than most mainstream shooters. Halo is just the same as most FPS only presented better.

When I said Halo 2 is really easy to become good at, I meant compared to most FPS and especially compared to Halo. ps. I'll add you next time I get on. pps. The double shot really isn't that hard to do either, but much harder than the other glitches. ppps. Claw/Boxer for life!
