The problem with that is beginners are penalized for how long it takes them to learn. Plus people who play long songs have an advantage. A pro could take advantage by reseting his/her account and playing one great run.

My suggestion (though this might be a strain on bandwidth) is to take the best score the player has gotten in each of the songs, add them all up, and then compare that total.

This way, only high scores improve your total, and if you were to go and, er.. drink and then play some FFR, your ranking wouldn't decrease (well, only if other players rank up from behind)

I hope that makes sense.

EDIT: This differs from the above post in that it adds up scores instead of ranks. The differences are subtle; first, if someone hasn't played all of the songs, they'd be no way to get ranks for those songs.

Second, harder songs should have more impact. Harder songs potentially give higher scores, which would make more of a difference if scores were added rather than rankings.

Once again, I hope that makes sense.

if you get one person who hacked all the songs for a high score though (like Nima(jk)) then that'll push back everyone's ranking.

I remember from when this came up a while back someone said the problem with adding up the best ranks is that it causes too many additional queries to the DB. The most effcient way to update this is to add up all the numbers once and then just keep a running total. When they complete a song, change the total by (This Rank - Your Old Best Rank). Only if you beat your old highscore, that is.

what's up, my high score on the updated picture is higher than the person in 4th, but I'm still in fifth. Why aren't the ranks changing?

ranks change daily.... as of now, I'm ranked 9th, but my grand total score is higher than 8th and 7th as of now... so I'm waiting for the ranks to b refreshed too... heh...

If it's based on average per song, I would be one of the highest ranks...

Unfortunately your rank will change whenever anyone gets a score higher than your best rank... another good reason to add up high scores in each level instead of ranks

actually... as of now I'm ahead =P... though it doens't really matter, you have more skill than I do regardless of rank... still waiting for them to update it...

just for my input, I think it should be based on the sum of a player's high scores for the songs... songs that have not been played yet coutn as zeroes... that would not only give a better representation of skill, but make a tie improbable, and encourage playing among the plethora of FFR songs as opposed to just one logn song over and over...

o yeah, and one more thing, it'd b nice is the rank also told u how many players there are in total... like... 9 / 254,328 or w/e the numbers may b...
