Choca: would you believe what a wine connosieur has to say about particle physics just because he sounds smart?

The fact that you're making the statements that you are shows that you're completely uneducated when it comes to matters of evolution and the sciences! As such, you're showing us that you're blindly believing what a few have to say on a grand matter like evolution without getting any facts from another point of view.

But you already said you have trouble understanding what you believe... You are relying on sources that deceive you.

And you know this how? It's a good thing you weren't around Waco in March/April of 1993 (hell, were you even alive then?) because that kind of naivete would have led you to a fiery demise.

Let's all blindly believe the poorly-translated-and-re-translated written works of random men thousands of years ago! That's the best way to live life! You know, rather than basing ourselves on scientific progress.

I think One Piece said it best. One Piece always says it best. The quote is from a dying man to his executioner next to a massive beast he and his village consider a god.

"In my country, 60 years ago, the same plague that is ravaging your village, Tree Fever, took the lives of 100,000 of my people! But now, a person will never die from the same disease! Do you know why?! We discovered a cure! In my right hand, I hold the bark of the Cona Tree! We can extract the cure, Coline, from this bark! If we bring this back, your village will be saved!

Do you know how many people around the world ran out of time waiting for this? How many people died before it was found?! Do you?!

You are crushing this great step of progress! And so I said, your ritual is a disgrace to those men!

In the end, will I be judged and die? Will I die in this accident? Will your village die of a curse? Will it die of a disease? ARE YOU THAT AFRAID OF GOD?!"

The executioner kills the beast he considers a god before it strikes down the injured man. He frees the man and calls off the execution. The cure is administered to the townspeople and the disease is fought off.

Moral of the story? Blindly following faith ignores scientific progress. Ignoring scientific progress halts the progress of mankind. Diseases would be incurable. Medical treatment would be non-existent. Vaccines, medications, all of that would not exist.

Please do not take the Bible literally.

Squeek, you've got it all wrong.

Science doesn't deal with matters of faith, and matters of faith don't deal with science.

Blindly following faith doesn't have any effect on scientific progress.

Please tell me how my belief in God is preventing me from being a scientist.

There is a difference between believing in God and blindly following faith.

I'm not saying all Christians are blindly following faith, nor am I saying all Christians are halting the progress of science.

I'm saying blind faith does. Blind faith, to me, means, "Oh, I got a cut on my knee. God will fix it."

And, you know, not clean the cut or put a band-aid on it. Because scientific progress has told us that disinfecting a cut makes it heal. Not to mention that scientific progress has told us how to disinfect it as well.

Explain. Belief in God is faith, which has no evidence.

@Squeek: that doesn't address my point at all.

EDIT: okay, your edit clears things up a bit.

I, by no means, would ever say that believing in God prevents anyone from being a scientist. Some of the greatest natural philosophers and scientists were very religious and believed they were studying the work of God, and perhaps they were. I do not believe in a "God", but I that's not to say I am not spiritual. In fact I am extremely spiritual, and I acknowledge the Earth and all that occupy it as being a single entity (or a higher form of life).

However, I do believe that organized religion to be the worst think to happen to humanity. As history will show, that anyone that spoke out against the beliefs of the Catholic Church was executed or imprisoned.

i understand what squeek is saying. i agree. i hear a lot of christian saying that they dont know why things happen and that its gods will and god has a plan and all that bull. thats why i asked "whats the point is in wearing your seatbelt because if god wills it then you will not crash and if you do crash and god wills it you will live and if you do die then they will keep you alive on machines that painfully keep you in a vegitated state because if it was gods will for you to die than you would have already done so. its ignorant to think that there is any plan at all for us. wear your seat belt and dont rely on god to protect you because the biblical god does not exist.(now that i think about it this is slightly a different tangent than squeek)

What he's trying to say is that if you truly believed that your god would protect you no matter what, there would be no reason to wear a seatbelt or get medical attention or take medication, because your god would fix you right up, right?

I didn't watch the video, but this guy seems to be one of those people who would try to persuade open-minded children that their god loves them that much. Let me tell you, he'd be responsible for a lot of deaths if he did.

no, some Christains think that they cant go to hospitail and reliy on Gods
healing(doesnt mean that God dosent heal people; just means that soem times He doesnt) I dont!(not that I dont think God cant heal he can)
if I get hurt I go to the hospital,I wear my seatbelt, I wear my helmet.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said.

Please type in English.

Also, I'm just making what perkey said more understandable, so there's no reason to breathe down my neck.

I hope she didn't live near Houston.

If she did, I probably know her.

edit: Nevermind, the girl I'm thinking of is MUCH more literate and not as attached to God, although religiously devout.
