Default Curse words.

Hey everyone, im specs brother, Tsu.

Today as i stared at the bumps on my ceiling i realized something.
Cursewords... they're just words right? I mean if you didn't know what they meant and heard tthem it would just sound like a quirky sound. But when do we find out what they mean. Is it when we repeat them and our parents yell at us because its a so called "bad word". Wouldn't it have been better if they just ignored it. I mean at the time we didn't even know of the word. So if our parents managed to let it slide, our teacher's, neighbors, or mailmen wouldn't. You have to realize that words dont mean anything without definitions. (apparently) Its like in freddy vs jason (bad movie btw), freddy became powerless because the town where he originated came up with a way to "forget" him. What if we came up with a way to "forget" curse words, i mean would it even be possible? No one could speak of the words at all, and then over the generations the words would dissapear. And then leading to another problem. Maybe more words would arise. Some guy would be walking down the street, stubb his toe, and say "funklestein!". Someone would hear it, and they would pass it on. IT would spread through the world like a disease.

Yes i know this post is somewhat pointless. Maybe in truth we truly need curse words. We may not have ways of expressing certain "feelings" then.

Yet it is an interesting thought, they are just words. Words dont have to be taught right? Hmmm...

-Tsu

Someone is always there to remember. There is always someone spreading it. Something that is suppressed will always stay with SOMEONE. Things that people tried to either forget about or sweep under the rug that later came out:

Slavery
Communism
Book "1984" (The actual plot)
Alcohol prohibition

I can't think of any others, but those were all very big problems that you couldn't get rid of.

Well, yes, you're right, without definitions, the words are really empty.
But I think that people just need a way to express something really bad. I do realize that it may seem that curse words are losing meaning, but nonetheless...

...words can be described by other words. In other words, a word such as f*** can be known as another word, as well as the new word, yet we choose not to.

i think someday everyone will forget the words meanings and the word f*** might mean "it" in 100 years.

Well, think about life one hundred years ago...the english language has evolved, but not by much. So I doubt the word fuck will become "it".

Really, I dont see why people freak out over "bad words". It is because people freak out, that the words are still being used.

Shit and Crap have the same definition, both are slang, basically they are essentially the same, but one is considered "bad" and is even censored on these meesage boards. And heaven forbid I should say shit in front of a group of children, God smite me with all your might, just because I wanted to add emphasis on my sentence.

But, words are more powerful than weapons (well, maybe not like a hydrogen bomb...fuck doesnt hold a candle-stick to the destructive power of hydrogen bomb....those things are insane...hell, even none-existed ones are able to start wars.)

there was a list published by someone in the 1940s, i think, which gave birth to the wordsy ou couldn't use on public airwaves.

Thing is, people use fricking, mothertrucker, etc..into of the word fuck. I think it shoudl be considered just as bad because of teh meaning, but people only care about the word. People are stupid like that. Curse words aren't necessarily bad, I think. they have a meaning just like any other word, and help convey emotion to something.

Really, it would be better to just get a grip and accept it.

I don't see how they're offensive. Like other people said, they're just words used to add expression.

Expressions shared with others sets off other expressions from the others, even if the set off expressions are expressionless. The only instance in which this does not work is when that "others" is dead.

One expression is "Offensive".

Quote:

In this instance, SpookG added a question mark at the end to better express that his statement is a question.

If an offensive word is not offending, its not offensive, so its not an offensive word. So an offending word has to be offensive or else the "others" wont be offended, thus probably creating some wierd universe malfuntion.

Im not sure if I explained myself too well, but basically, I disagree with Moogy.

No, I don't think you explained yourself very well. Please reiterate.

I think I get what Omeganitros said. He's saying that the whole point of a curse word is that it is offensive. The more commonly used ones now (e.g., crap) start to lose their impact, most likely because of their wide usage.

People take offense at them because that is the purpose of these words. Language is a main focus of a social society, and since humanity has so many different emotions and must share them with others by nature, we must find ways to express these feelings. For example, awe could be expressed by "Oooooh", etc., happiness could be expressed by "Ahhhhh", etc. Curse words are necessary, because they express the emotions anger or impatience.

However, in the idea of polite society, where everything is idyllically peaceful and nothing is wrong, anger and impatience have no place. This is why I think curse words are not considered "polite".
