How do you even make files on notepad?

WHY?
Stepmania is 5000x better for making files. To answer your question, just zip it up with the song and upload it. It will work automatically.

1. Change the file extension to .dwi or .sm depending on how you coded it. 2. You should have the .dwi or .sm in a folder with the song, the banner, and background image. Just zip or rar up your folder and upload it. 3. Your coding might be ****ed up. You might wanna check that out.

Just use Stepmania. I would think you'd need it anyways to check if your simfile is really onsync. It's too much trouble to make one in notepad, even if you know how it works.
If you STILL want to make it in notepad, use the .sm format, since it's much simpler to understand, and the Stepmania README even tells you what means what. So if you do use notepad, follow ducky's advice (especially #3), and good luck, you'll need it. I can't imagine creating a stepfile in .dwi format. In this case, it DOES matter which one you name it, because it changes how the code is interpreted. I think that's all. |

Right click, rename, add on ".sm" or ".dwi" to it, hit enter.

Open windows explorer, Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
Then you'll have your file was whatever.txt, change it to whatever.sm

You can hide file extensions? I never knew that, and I don't see why anyone would do that. File extensions make the world go round.
