1.One or two hands? By GolfersPride
Which one?
Well lets look at the pros and cons of each one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two hands (Spread):

Pros
  • You can press four arrows at a time.
  • Less work for your hands to do.
  • It's easier to do those double arrows.
  • Your fingers can move faster because each finger only has one arrow to hit.
  • Easier to button mash with it.
  • You can actually finish those hard songs like Flight of the Bumblebee.
  • You can use your most dominant fingers (index, middle on both hands).
Cons
  • Some people think it's cheating.
  • You cannot do other things which require your hands to do it while playing a song. For example: Scratching your head.
  • Your fingers might slip off the keys because of over crowdedness with all your fingers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
One hand (Three Fingers):

Pros
  • You CAN do extra things requiring your hands while playing. For example: Scratching your head.
  • Its more relaxing.
  • You can just lay back and put your head on your other arm and still be able to play.
  • You also look better if you can do those hard songs with only one hand.
  • It comes naturally to people who use one hand in other games so it might feel more comfortable.
Cons
  • It gets really hard to do those up and down double arrows.
  • It's almost impossible to do those hard songs like flight of the bumblebee.
  • Your fingers have to work really fast.
  • It makes loud noises sometimes while playing because you lift your fingers up a lot and press the keys really hard since your trying to press it fast.
  • It might give you some pains in your hands if you play FFR too much. Excpecially the fast songs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, thats all I got.
Please post more pros and cons for me to add, or tell me if you disagree with something.

2.Hand Setup in FFR. By TD Project
Slightly edited by: Golferspride

I'm just tired of seeing 5 million threads based on what hand setup they should play. So here it goes:

There are many types of setups, but four are most common.

SPREAD - 4 fingers, commonly two on each hand (middle and index fingers)

INDEX - 2 fingers, commonly one on each hand (index fingers)

SPREAD 2 -(explained later)

ONE HAND - three fingers from one hand are played

Lets start with Index. For FFR you can play with index fingers, which increases speed and accuracy, but are not great for most of the songs that are now released for FFR. Index enables you to truly simulate DDR, because your two fingers represent two legs and feet. However FFR wasn’t meant as a complete DDR simulator, so some songs have awkward steps you cannot accomplish with index.

Spread. This is when you put 4 fingers, one on each button, increasing your ability to hit arrows with practice. Usual setup is:
LEFT HAND: middle finger = left key, index = down key
RIGHT HAND: middle finger = right key, index = up key
With some of the more complex patterns on the harder songs, you will be able to accomplish them easier with SPREAD setup.

Spread 2. I just re-categorized this, but it’s the same setup except on the number pad.
LEFT HAND: middle finger = 4, index = 2
RIGHT HAND: middle finger = 6, index = 8
This gives you more space to work faster songs, instead of cramping it up on the arrow keys.

One hand. Three fingers from one hand are played, this may be comfortable to some, but I have personally had no experience with this style, and its probably the hardest to keep up with the really fast songs, but its all personal preference

NOTE TO ALL WHO ARE CHOOSING WHICH STYLE TO PLAY:

There are three factors you must know
- What difficulty are you going to want to play up to
- How comfortable are you with one of the setups
- Comfort in your hands/wrists

Generally, if your not comfortable with a style, then change it. Your hand setup style is PERSONAL PREFERENCE. So make up your mind on which style, go practice and have fun on Flash Flash Revolution.

3.Other Opinions From Other Users (Some may be slightly edited by GolfersPride):
  • What seems to happen is that most people play as if FFR is like any other PC game and so they use 1 hand (almost always their right). Sure it works when you start out because it’s easy, anyone could play easy songs with one hand but then you get better and you want to play harder songs. It's hard, physically. So I recommend that you pick a four finger or index style and force yourself to play like that, even if it's awkward because you will probably get better. You are screwing yourself early on. Unless of course you really just don't care (This is for n00bs, if you have experience you're probably yelling DUH at your screen right now). By super-smashman Original post at: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ad.php?t=20818
  • I don't know. I guess using 2 hands always just kinda felt like "cheating" somehow to me for some reason. I usually automatically relate FFR to DDR which I started playing first, so using 1 hand felt more natural, and I instinctively think of using 2 hands as being analagous to having 2 people duo a solo DDR song. Sure you can finish harder songs if you get good at, say, only covering 2 of the arrows, but it's kinda missing the point. Besides, using only 1 hand I can pass all the songs I like. (No offense but beyond a certain difficulty level it just seems to me like random button mashing instead of precise stepping).

Personally, I use the one hand method, but then again, I am just a beginner and I am not very good. I might start using two hands though, but then I will loose the little amount of skill I currently have.

Clearly, everyone who plays 2 hand plays 4 finger.

You, my friend, do not know the concept of spread.

EDIT: And clearly, one-handers cannot play 4 finger.

Ya since you have four finger, one finger might accidentaly slip off the arrow keys. This however, only happend to me like 3 times.

Are you kidding? It's highly possible if you work hard enough on it. It's just that most people haven't realized it yet. Although, songs like 'Pants' tend to be a little hard to do since your stamina expires faster than a person using four fingers.

You forgot two hand three finger and also you mixed up four finger and spread. Spread is where you use 4 fingers with none directly above or below each other.

I use the arrow keys, but my hands have never slipped off. I have to use a very weird style where i cross my fingers and stuf but it has become really comfortable over the games I've played. I would say that four fingered is a lot more comfortable because with one hand you have to move your fingers faster to catch up.

EDIT: I have no clue what I'm trying to say.

With one hand, you can finish almost every song. Even FOTBB. >.>
The ones on FFR anyways.
Also, I think playing one handed is easier to learn since many people start out with it.
