Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 3 Discussion
Steel monster felt... odd to me.
The two trills were out of place because half of the instances of that sound were stepped as a trill and the other half were stepped with copy/paste stream patterns. IMO pick either streams or trills. Was weird to have both.
Random completely unlayered section in the middle of the file. I kept wanting to follow along with the bass there lol. I mean it's not technically wrong and it does flow into the next part where you layer the percussion nicely so whatever.
White arrows were actually used nicely.
The odd thing about the whole file though was that it seems to be based in split stream patterns. In the beginning of the song, for example, nearly every quarter note falls on 4, followed by a split 16th pattern (i.e. 2 3 1) with stuff layered in. This leads to a lot of the jumps in the denser parts being (24) (14) (13) which are the hardest to read and easiest to split. This also leads to a lot of the minijacks being anchored on 1 and 4, such as 4(34) or (12)(14). I personally find all of this to be really... not awkward per-se, but just hard to read.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to be ~condescending~ or whatever shit people have accused me of in the past, I'm just trying to put in words why I find the file hard. I still enjoy playing it or else I wouldn't have bothered to write like 15 minutes of words about the file.
Also through no fault of the simartist, nearly every three-note 32nd part has weird framers which makes them kinda hard to hit. The 24ths are nice though!
I can see what a lot of people say when comparing this to Wraith: Wraith definitely takes more raw speed and stamina, but Steel Monster is so much harder to reliably score accurately on.Last edited by hi19hi19; 11-7-2013, 11:36 PM.Comment

Re: 9th Official Tournament: Round 3 Discussion
The trills were actually stepped completely wrongly, which is why I fixed them in the fixes. Fixed version only have two sets of trills: one in the middle and one at the end. And yeah, the unlayered section was meant to act as a sort of reprieve following the 32nd wall, so that's just sorta deliberately meant to build back into the song.Originally posted by hi19hi19Steel monster felt... odd to me.

Framers are kind of a casualty of the FFR engine, sadly. Especially on files just under 150 BPM.Originally posted by hi19hi19Also through no fault of the simartist, nearly every three-note 32nd part has weird framers which makes them kinda hard to hit. The 24ths are nice though!

Ugh, yeah, I was so sure they'd be there with the two-month layover, and with it being the tourney I don't like the idea of playing the wrong file for a week and then switching it later. And I'm kind of upset because this is the second file of mine that's had the incorrect version uploaded (With a Cherry on Top).
And yeah, once again Scintill rocks a rock file (underrated? REALLY, Halogen. You think that?)

ohi.

I wouldn't mind if it was just one set of 32nd, but there's 4 random 32nd rolls sets in a row that looks similar to this. /headache
Everything else in file was fun for me at least.
Haven't played other files yet.

So does that mean score wipe? I don't mind, but just wondering, it's still early in the round, lol.
