Heya.
So a bunch of my school friends have gotten into Stepmania over the past week, and they're all asking me for the game. I wanted to bundle a few good packs for beginners so they have something to start 'em off, but I couldn't find too many. So I want to ask you: what packs did you start playing when you were a beginner, and what files would you recommend? For reference, here's what I've included so far: FFR Community Pack Series Beginner Files (compilation of 58 files with good beginner charts - if anybody wants this, I could upload it!) Community Keyboard Mega Pack 1 Super Meat Boy Pack Toph's Originals (a lot of them are fully-charted) Any suggestions? ![]() |

I had to start with pad files first. I'd suggest getting some official DDR stuff from zenius i vanisher to start off with. Then move your way up to ITG/DWI extreme stuff. The first keyboard files I got to play decently were form F5 and VGMP1. Then work your way up from there.

shameless self promotion of sorts but my simfile packs 3–5 have multiple charts/difficulties for a majority of the files
![]() I might just compile all my files with multiple charts into a pack if you want

Relatively obscure one, but Ace Megapack has a really solid mix of easy files.
SMG Pack 1 also has quite a few easy and very fun charts. |

Keyboard Megapack has a lot of easier files.
You could include F4/F5 and Keyboard Collab II in there as well, though there are some trickier files peppered in there. VGMP 1, 2, and 3 are great for beginners too. I actually think assembling a pack of easier files from a bunch of well-known packs (Like PPP 1 and 2, ODI 1 and 2, Keyboard Collab III, SMGPacks, Red Fraction, FFR Community Packs, Light Chancellors Packs, Xoon Packs, etc.) could be a good idea too. |

I second that idea! I might do it for the Lights Chancellor Packs sometime. Definitely the older packs, since they're likelier to have fully-charted files (PPP, ODI, Keyboard Collab and SMG). Not so sure about the FFR Community Packs (the only one with a significant beginner focus is 4) or the Xoon Packs (do any of them have charts for beginners?)

Let's see if they are interested in anime-ish song. If so, the world of 6 keys is now opening up before you! ![]() http://www.otakusdream.com/news/?page_id=593 http://www.otakusdream.com/news/?page_id=981 *disappears*

Most pad packs (Mute Sims, Mudkyp Korea) tend to be much easier than keyboard packs. Would also give a more diverse selection of stepping styles too.

pad charts can teach new players most of the things they need to improve, but there should be more beginner keyboard charts.

There has to be a simfile out there that can help introduce jumpstreams at moderate speeds. It took me until baq12's Return of Salieri chart to even learn that.

as much of a chore as it may seem, i would recommend playing faster jumpstream files on rates less than 1.0. if gives you a much wider variety of files to play, even if they sound like shit.
