The June issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Newtype magazine is reporting on Friday that previously revealed new anime from director Hiroyuki Imaishi (Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt) is the battle action television anime Kill La Kill.

Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann, Nodame Cantabile: Finale, Re: Cutie Honey) is supervising and writing the scripts, and acclaimed animator Sushio (key animator on Gurren Lagann and new Evangelion films, character designer on Engage Planet Kiss Dum) is designing the characters. The untitled project will be at Imaishi's relatively new studio Trigger. Aniplex registered the kill-la-kill.jp domain name.

The story centers around two fiercely fighting schoolgirls, Ryūko Matoi (pictured left) and Satsuki Kiryūin (pictured right). On a campus ruled by force, a transfer student wielding a Basami sword brings about upheaval.
