DAY
OF
SILENCE

I believe this is a noble cause, and it affects people everywhere. All you have to do is be silent, on April 17th, 2009. Not even the whole day, just your school day, work day, or what have you. This is an annual protest that speaks (or doesn't) against sexual harrassment based on gender, sexual orientation, or sexual identity. It's very easy and it spreads the word well. When someone says hello, or anything of that sort, all you have to do is show them a slip that says this:

Quote:
Silent for Lawrence King: Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence (DOS), a national youth movement bringing attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment. This year’s DOS is held in memory of Lawrence King, a 15 year-old student who was killed in school because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward building awareness and making a commitment to address these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence?
And it doesn't have to be exactly that, as long as people know what it's for. So, I would really appreciate it if some people could pitch in and do this. Only 8,000 people participated last year in the US. People close to me have suffered due to other's discrimination. I know a lot of you can relate.

It's really easy! Please help.
