Default Pack ratings

Simply rate the packs you've played with whatever scale system you want in terms of enjoyment.

Edit: ASIDES FROM ORIGINALS

what the **** does forcing biased as **** ratings onto an entire pack hope to achieve other than create a distorted and subjective hierarchy of what is the ideal and quality pack

I can barely rate a single file using any scale without completing bullshitting the numbers, there's just way too much to account for to come down to a single number to use. how this even applies to full packs is way beyond my understanding

Hey Dude, I don't see your point to be honest. Writing reviews for a pack is pretty much the same thing, just that you go a lot more in depth. This thread just sums up your overall impression of every pack. And why would giving your opinion create a hierarchy?

You don't need to take everything into account, just give them a rough score. You could just look up what packs that contain the most files that you frequently play/have played. If you have any files that you especially like then take that into account. I mean, it might not be very accurate but I'm quite sure it won't be distorted as damn.

Well, I won't give any scores then

Dark Chancellors Pack - I don't understand why this pack is kind of overrated by everyone. I think this have ODI feeling with professional songs (that anyone listened to would think this song is made exclusively for music games). Steps is great but lacks 'simplicity fun' like you'd see on Nick's file if you know him.

LCP 1 2 3 - Really love these LCP pack because I didn't hate ANY SINGLE SONG CHOICE in these pack (although I didn't play I love the songs especially LCP3) I dunno why (maybe it's about generation? ODI people tends to step darker song) Really fun working together on this pack because more and more people began to truly shine. (Rebound, Rogdor,Detrimentalist for example) But a bit complain about LCP 3's easier charts which is kind of half assed. It's already happen to me when my friend want to play. I ask 'you want generic song or anime?' she replied 'maybe generic one?' I think of LCP3 and FFR Autumn but there is too few files with easier charts on LCP3 that she sift through pack and found no song that she like and have easier charts. FFR Autumn is a bit failed about easier charts as well because many files have 2 charts but difficulty is almost identical and gives no meaning to newbies. Which leads to...

Nick's Mix ,OD6 - Excellent pack I can proudly present to my friends because this pack looks so premium with all fully charted files. I can leave her learn by herself with this pack also the step is pretty solid and simply fun without fancy technique. Many ignore this pack because it's anime.

FFR Summer & Autumn - Song is kind of 'around the world' I guess. I suggest stricter judgment because I hate it too when judging is lenient (likely for the sake of non-elitism concept) got accepted only to be bashed later when pack came out. Everyone got better by having rejected. But because of the nature of this pack there tends to be 'hidden gems' in it. (like Megamon's Pink Lady which is great but many (my friend,at least) skipped because unknown step charter and awful gfx lol)

Also super unbalanced song choice. A lot of wubstep and a lot of japan on second. It can't be help though that people here likes a specific genre. (I love LCP song choices, for example)

Mystery Pack 2 - Song choice is about perfectly balanced. I love this pack for that.

Xoon5 - COOL PACK I get a feeling that every song is 'cool' lmao. Open this pack to play seldomly.

UEMP2 , UEMP3 , FFRCP3 - are the packs I think 'lacks identity'. I can't recall what these pack is about or some memorable song in them.

Subjectivemania Collab Pack 1 , 2 - These packs are cute :3 (don't know other way to explain lol but I love them)

Solo Rulz Pack - Genuinely fun solo files in here such as Illegal, Genocide and Seisen Spectacle. But too many song sound like game soundtrack :P

Solo Japan Pack - Also pretty unique solo pack which although Japanese this has non-anime song to balance the pack off.

I'm not mad about the reviews. I'm mad that people are throwing bullshitted numbers on a number scale that means absolutely nothing and is totally irrelevant. Yet people will look at this rating and go "oh this pack got a 1/10 it must be really bad" without any real reason or logic to come down to a conclusion of WHY.

Yes, you can sum up your overall impression. But the fact you sum up an overall impression using the aforementioned bullshit rating is absolutely ludicrous. By slapping ratings to packs using a number, you're dividing the packs into hierarchies and tiers. For example, It's quite evident from the people that actually posted serious ratings in here is that they prefer the elitism time period where it was basically impossible for non-veteran simfile authors to make a file without being highly criticized and bashed. Look at Alex's post and you'll see he segregated his ratings from the most elitist down until the most lenient, modern day laxness.

Quote:

Keyword here being "rough score". If you can explain to me an entire objective system and/or formula to use to actually come down and rate a file out of a scale of 10, then I'll be able to understand this concept. How I see it, you either like a file or you don't like a file. Slapping bullshitted fantasy numbers is completely vague and doesn't even tell you much other than show the public that "oh this file/pack got a 1/10 I shouldn't play it".

I'm not mad at the fact packs got bad scores.

I'm mad at the fact that these ratings are suggesting that elitism was the way to go when back in the day you had to step to appeal to an inner circle of elitists as opposed to the community. I thought elitism had died but the actual ratings posted in here makes it evident that it's still around if you're still segregating packs into different tiers and hierarchies, all of which go from the most elitist pack down to modern day, actual community-based.

Everyone has their taste, yes, but all these ratings are basically implying that SM in general has taken a wrong turn by turning away from elitism as opposed to actually sticking with it. If we all kept the established "elitist standard" of what makes a good file to appeal to the small inner circle instead of the broad community, what do you think happens when all the elite-clique simfile authors all of a sudden stop playing? I'll leave that question for you to think about, if we had not abandoned the elitism shenanigans.

Sorry if I'm taking this too seriously. This topic really grinds my gears because you're all ignoring the broader picture here of what exactly is SM's current status. I don't have anymore to say here but I just had to rant.

I agree with Gundam-Dude to be honest. I'd love to rate all the packs I've played, but are they really even that bad? If I was just gonna give it a rating based on the amount of file I liked converted into a percentage rounded to the nearest ten, I don't like I could give any pack below a 5, since I like at least half the songs in a pack most of the time. And any of the packs people here still play will most likely not be a pack anyone would bother discussing. This whole topic feels a bit too primed for this:

"I really hated the DCP. It was overinflated and none of the files were even that fun. I can't see why anyone would bother playing this unless they were an elitist prick who can't fathom what makes a file fun."

Instead, I'll say which packs I really liked the most in terms of files I played: DCP, LCP3, Xoon 5, PPP2, SMG2, RF, and KBMP1.5. These packs, in my opinion, just had some great files that I really liked smashing my keys too. Highlights for me include: King of the Sea (Kil), Midnight Dragon (Zanthro), Overall (Ossa), A (Kil), Brace Yourself (Malice), Prophetess (cetaka), Battle with Saruin (Kil), Cosmic Orchestra (Kommi), Drove Through Ghosts (Jx and Stargroup), Comfort Betrays (Torrent), and Pollinosis (Reach). Just a few of my favorites.

I'll end up liking the newer packs too though. It always takes like two months before I go back to a pack I download so I'm sure the new FFR packs will be two of my favorites.

@GD: I was actually hoping that people would realize that these ratings are subjective since no one has mentioned anything about objectivity.

You make it sound as if everyone are responisble for the survival of the community.

But yeah, I'm also gonna stop here because I didn't make this thread to fish for drama.

When I rate a pack, it really depends on how I look at it. I'll state random opinions

I don't like rfpack but I like dark chancellors because of music (and probably the name). I like LCP 3 over FFRCP3 because of music and fun files. I like xoon5 over xoon4 because of fun files. And so on.

People have terrible excuses for rating things. And then drama starts because of differing opinions. It happens all the time.
