Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...ices-agreement
http://www.microsoft.com/privacystat...s/default.aspx was gonna do a big post about why you should read these but I'll just sum it up like this: if you don't know why I'm posting this, then lol edit: apparently I do need to elaborate on why people should take the time to read this. a terms update generally means that there's a change in how your personal information is going to be used. this can be both positive and negative, but taking into consideration the whole microsoft-nsa relationship (zero-day exploits, anyone?), it's safe to assume that this is going to be a negative change. Re: Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
google is significantly worse than microsoft when it comes to privacy

Re: Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
So is it more than "We read your emails so we can give you relevant ads" or are did they accidently spill out a skynet plot?

Re: Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
The first thing people can do is, well, care enough about their privacy. A common argument is "I have nothing to hide," but that doesn't really make sense. Privacy isn't about having things to hide.
I know there are people on FFR who frequently use Microsoft products, whether that's in the form of an OS, free email service, etc. I also know that there are people on FFR who care about their privacy enough to slowly (or quickly) make moves to more anonymous services. As an example, I'm moving away from GMail and Hotmail to an anonymous email service. Not to mention third parties and the concept of findability. |

Re: Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
it's not that I don't care because I don't think I have anything to hide, it's that I don't think I could do anything which would cause change on a broad scale.
windows operating systems are the default on like every non-mobile machine without an apple logo on it. that doesn't change unless ???? I can't even think of anything unless microsoft keeps putting out iterations which don't click with average users and some other behemoth company is smart enough to see an opportunity to get into the market. and because they're a behemoth company they probably have the same privacy-violating terms and conditions and blah blah. I can switch to other things but what effect does that have on anything aside from the NSA's ability to snoop useless info about me? |

Re: Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
I need a tl;dr ;~;
someone wrap it up for people who aren't able to read lawyer, because as far as I'm concerned, as long as I don't live in the USA, and I use AdBlock plus, Noscript, & mywot on a firefox browser, I have nothing to worry about in terms of data collection. Does this mean they will be able to collect data remotely? Can they collect data simply from signing the terms of service, without the option to disallow them monitoring of services (which I see after a lot of their terms of service)? Re: Microsoft Terms of Use are changing
yes, I don't know much about anonymous email and it's the first thing that came to mind when you said "anonymous email service."
