Default Gimmick files

So my buddy recently took up making gimmick files and I really enjoyed them. They are meant to be a bit harder, so if you haven't done gimmick files before, I wouldn't recommend these.

He'll be trying to make one new gimmick file a week, so check back if you like it ^.^

Really, really cool. I have never understood how people make these, though. Looks too good to be true!!

it's a Course. You can change the way the notes are displayed. Kind of like playing Battlemode in DDR, sept you can actually edit what parts of the song you want to do the weird stuff too. Instead of it being completely random depending how bad your opponent is kicking your ass.

This is played best on an actual ITG machine. I remember seeing a friend of mine play at an arcade and everyone was freaking out. And how most of these files were designed to be played. At least Windeu's files. The only thing that makes dubstep playable imo.

I like certain kinds of gimmicks, but not the kind used in these videos.

I think gimmick use should be fitting to the song, and mostly used sparingly unless the gimmick itself is meant to BE the difficulty. I liked some of the old Family Farce stuff for example. All the blahblahblah-gamesh stuff. And that was very gimmicky with mostly arrows turning to mines (or vica-versa), disappearing stuff, randomly appearing stuff.

I guess the whole arrows get smaller/ZOMG receptor shuffle/shakey shakey just looks more annoying to me than anything fun. Compare with speedup/slowdown, stops, arrow-to-mine, mine-to-arrow, disappearing arrow, appearing mine, etc... which can be fun. My 2 cents.

If you get any of the arrow-to-mine, mine-to-arrow, disappearing arrow, appearing mine, etc... files, you'll need Stepmania 3.9 to play them as intended. That exact version, nothing newer, nothing older.

Reponse:
The gimmicks to fit to the song, and I also have some difficulty with the hit-arrows being switched around.. but it's one thing I like to play to get better at it, not something that should just be avoided completely (like some things that are just unreadable) even memorization kind of things I sometimes just think a file would do better without, but there isn't anything that is impossible to read on the first playthrough, just really hard to on this file.

Reponse:
I guess it's the same as some people really like dump files because they are hard, and others hate them for the same reason. Although I guess something to take from this would be "try to vary the gimmicks so it appeals different people, or just for variety" lol something like that..

Hey its me, I'm the one who Findarian is talking about. I'm now able to make my first post. I had to wait 24 hours. Anyways Yeah that file is my first gimmick file and I'm in the process of making another one. I wanna try to at least get one gimmick file out a week. Because people like regular updates you know?

But yeah once I finish files I post them in this forum.

one thing i have to say is keep the gimmicks on time. some of the gimmicks in this file start early making it really hard to know whats next to hit. theres a difference between being hard to read and hard to memorize

I had the same issue with like 1/2 notes coming up a little too fast, but I couldn't really pinpoint where it was.. maybe you can? *i'm sure any input would be really appreciated*

i'm honestly not a huge fan of gimmicks that alter mods

I much rather bpm changes, stops, and negative bpms. standard stuff, never fails, when done right provides a fantastic experience.
