Cities: Skylines
Anyone playing it?
Post your cities here http://store.steampowered.com/app/255710/ For anyone wondering, this is what Simcity 5 should have been. I have about 5 hours into it so far and it's fantastic.

Re: Cities: Skylines
If I had 12 more dollars in my Steam wallet, I'd drop it all on this game. Watched a stream of it for five hours last night and loved every moment of it.
I haven't played it, but I would definitely recommend it from what I've seen. -o24

Anyway, this is the kind of game I end up planning/thinking too much and so, the more complex it is, the less enjoyment I get from it. Bought CitiesXL a while back and didn't had the time to play a lot. It's not bad at all but it bored me completely from building games. :/

Re: Cities: Skylines
I might get this game. My only concern is that I would get really obsessive compulsive about every single building, tree, street, house and everything being in the perfect place. The game might drive me crazy.

Re: Cities: Skylines
Currently trying to build NYC.
Running into severe traffic problems @ 30k pop lmao, I have a few roads completely bogged down and not sure what to do about them. TBH the problem is I need 6 lane roads running down some of my main streets in my first land block but, since I didn't have the $ for them initially they're two lane roads and now they're completely jammed (the beginnings of manhattan are fine for traffic though since I've invested in proper road structure) Thinking I'll just save up some $, demolish 2/3 large strips of my original block and then get some 6 lane running through to fix the problems.

Re: Cities: Skylines
Is that possible?
Bulldozed some sections, added freeways which helped a lot, and added a subway. Over 40k now with a lot less traffic problems so hopefully smoother sailing from here. Love the customization in this though. You can make insane road structures and walking structures. Wish there was more building style customization but I'm assuming there will be tons of mods out for that soon.

Re: Cities: Skylines
It's a pretty fun game. Haven't gotten far at all yet though. I'm sure it'll get better as more stuff is unlocked

Re: Cities: Skylines
The garbage is the most annoying thing in the game. How the hell can people have so much garbage? One of my landfill sites also isn't sending any garbage trucks out so that's cool too

Re: Cities: Skylines
Garbage isn't too bad. Build more incinerators and make sure you empty your landfills or build more of them. Had some garbage problems before 50k but not much since then.
Dead people seem to be more of a nuisance later on. Not sure if anyone has managed to get their city over 600k yet due to mass deaths. Up to 80k population, things getting more difficult to manage. http://i.imgur.com/64yYZ8N.jpg I have to say, they don't scale the population counter, so the 80k in my city is literally the simulated # of sims, but it looks way off. Some of the gigantic apartments only house 20 people, lol. Probably at least 5x the number of people listed if it were realistic. edit: @ 110k, still no real problems. Traffic stabilized thanks to better layouts, mostly just slow smooth growth. Trying to unlock most of the buildings at this point so I can try monuments :O Very addicting game.

Re: Cities: Skylines
You can upgrade existing roads without demolishing them, but you'll end up bulldozing anything the width of the new road touches.
Love this game, wanted to give it a shot last night and 4 hours passed by in the blink of an eye. I started getting anxiety around 20k people and I had to quit, it started to feel like an actual job and I was falling way behind with abandoned buildings. I think they were bitching about taxes and I built too many high density residential areas from the get go. It'd be nice if they included a better tutorial too; I ended up starting from scratch 4 or 5 times before I really had a handle on the processes in play. Starting off really small and being smart with your zoning initially is key. Also make sure you pay close attention to the flow of rivers/streams when you first establish your water pumps/drains because you'll end up screwing yourself in expansion efforts until you can afford a treatment plant. Not really sure what to make of all the different city policies you can issue; I've done more of a trial and error approach with them. Overall this might be the best Simcity game ever made. The mod support is fantastic and the community is really delivering on that front. EA should look at this effort and take notes. |

Re: Cities: Skylines
Ive also seen a huge problem when you get around 400k, people die way too fast and the crematoriums can't keep up, so you're city will start to fall in population drastically because of dead people everywhere… lol
