Calgary/Southern Alberta Flooding...
Some of the worst flooding in decades is hitting Southern Alberta this week...
220mm of rain fell in High River, Alberta over the past 36 hours... Like wtf, that's an insane amount of rain, This unfortunately caused many rivers to overflow in Calgary. Last night they placed a mandatory evacuation on almost 100 000 people in Calgary alone... Some of the pictures are pretty friggen crazy! http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/...reactions.html The downtown core is completely underwater too. http://ow.ly/i/2qcv4 Oh and also the Saddledome (stadium) in Calgary has water in it reaching the 14th row of seats... An LRT station. Wow https://twitter.com/ampcalgary/statu...204225/photo/1 Before and after https://twitter.com/AshyLynn09/statu...103296/photo/1

Re: Calgary/Southern ALTA Flooding...
It's been all over the news here. Very sorry to hear that you have to undergo that sort of weather. You'll pull through though.

I have family that live in Calgary. Good thing it didn't hit the part of Calgary that they're in. On their way to work they had to turn around because of all the traffic that had been blocked by police.

Re: Calgary/Southern Alberta Flooding...
Goddamn I hope this isn't happening in July when I (potentially) go to Calgary's visa agency.
We've had some water blocking roads here in Regina but that's because everything related to our transportation system is fucking horrific. Absolutely nothing like Alberta's gong show, though. |

Re: Calgary/Southern Alberta Flooding...
I live in Medicine Hat right now, moving to Edmonton in less than a month.
Me and my daughter were evacuated from our home last night. My cat is stranded. It won't be flooding next month. This was a flash flood and was a huge meltoff/rain downpour that's stretched from the mountains and lain waste upon our province. Many friends of mine have lost their homes completely in the town of High River, where I spent a few years of my life.

I'm a Calgarian (Spent over 10 years of my life there), not trying to offend.. but here's a bad pun. The Flames are going to have a really freaking hard time emptying the Saddledome of water when they've only got one cup. And I'm also a flood victim so if this post gets any hate, don't even go there. I'm not allowed to even go near my house for awhile.

If that gets you going then what would you think about Vulcan, Alberta? Or Mirror, Alberta?
Or Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump? Last edited by trumaestro; 06-22-2013 at 09:33 PM.. |

Re: Calgary/Southern Alberta Flooding...
I took this as a play on words that since you were dying, you needed Medicine of some sort.
Hoping for the best for the Alberta victims.

I can't really do much but hope the people there are okay. My condolences go out to them, but unfortunately not much. :<

Re: Calgary/Southern Alberta Flooding...
Well when Brian Williams reports this on NBC nightly news, then you know it's pretty serious. I've also seen it reported on other local US channels too (e.g. Spokane local KQ).
