    Snoopy isn't a bad character in-and-of himself, the issue is more that the comic underwent flanderization after his continued popularity

    I really like the Peanuts, and a part of that was the tone: melancholy and meditative. Snoopy I think introduced a new dimension to the comic that eventually overshadowed the core tone.

    EDIT: For the record, the Christmas special is one of my favorite seasonal offerings. Peanuts at its best

        Vince Guaraldi is the man.

        I think it's really unfair to lay all that at Snoopy's feet though. The strip really needed something new to it when the 60s rolled around and Snoopy allowed sight gags and other commentary without changing the rest of the cast. If flanderization happened it's probably more to do with Schultz's age and wanting to streamline the workload rather then Snoopy overtaking the strip. Although, Snoopy hogging the spotlight probably did lead to a bunch of the original characters disappearing (Sherman, Patty, etc) just as much as Schultz was maybe sorta kinda forgetting the cast in his later years.

                            in my day it took us 2 hours to AAA 30 minutes of songs, and we did it uphill there AND back. kids these days are basically just asking for the AAAs to be given to them, with their >1 rates, for shame
