Anyone watch all-star weekend? Our baby John Scott scored twice, got the MVP, and a brand new truck. Seeing as this is his last season, it was really a good sight to see.

Watched it, started to get really upset that it isn't really about the bragging rights of "who is the best" in "what category" but more a family-orientated show to appease anyone watching. Don't get me wrong they all still have things to prove while there, but if you have watched the older All-Star Weekends compared to the ones in the last 5 years, it gets very depressing.

Don't get me wrong they all still have things to prove while there, but if you have watched the older All-Star Weekends compared to the ones in the last 5 years, it gets very depressing.

It was one of the most exciting all-star weekend. Not because of the performances, but the atmosphere and the drama during the week-end, a big part due to St. John Scott. I don't see what was depressing about this ASG. Players are doing this for fun, to showcase their skills and to celebrate with each other. You're missing the point, a serious bragging competition is not the spirit of the event.

Also, NHL really botched ASG with the drama about Scott and now one game suspensions on players who didn't attend because they wanted the weekend off. You are missing the point that it was the spirit of the event to brag about skill and demonstrate why they can even brag about it.

I'm not questioning the fun aspect of ASG, but morely I miss the spirit of competition rather than the spirit of fun; it suited hockey better with tensions so high.

Was there really tension in past all-star skill competitions ? As far as I can tell (and my first all-star game I remember was like 2003), it was all good-spirited and pretty relaxed. Players were there to give a good show to the audience.

Sure, yes, the competition aspect is part of what makes an all-star game interesting, but the real competition happens during the playoffs, when there's something to earn and to prove.

Main reason why the competetive drive is gone is due to all of the international tournaments, such as the olympics, that put the best in the world against each other, but just on a bigger stage. The all-star game was no longer the best place for players to go head to head against each other anymore.

It has more to do that it isn't worth the trouble enough to risk injuries during that week-end. What is there to earn anyway ? A Honda Pilot + 90,000$ cash ? Kinda low for a hockey player with a multi-million contract.

Detroit seems to be following the "win by a little, lose by a lot" mentality. That shelling by the Pens, man...but you just know they'll keep fighting. 24 years of playoff pride are on the line here.

It matters a lot that they can keep this going. They aren't too far away from the Canadiens all time streak. Here's to hoping that they make the playoffs much like when they snuck in with the 7 seed a couple years ago.

Well, when your team leader in goals is a rookie with 22 this late in the year, that's not a good thing. Good thing they moved to the East when they did, I don't think they would have kept making it in the West given how they've played the last few years. They're up 2-0 on Buffalo, though.
