Sorry was using an alt. ANYWAY you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. I own a good audio set up and I had the backing of evnoir with my case who just so happens to be an audio engineer. Your going to be smashing keys reguardless your not going to spend your time nitpicking the sounds and shit that come from the music because you are playing for a good score. And I will say it again if you have a STANDARD (low grade) set up and if your ANYTHING (Meaning you don't have ears like Piccolo) like most people you won't be able to tell the difference between 192 and 320. But last time i checked no one decided to do a blind test to prove me wrong. So please don't talk about music unless you really know what your talking about.

tldr: Won't ****ing matter cause your smashing keys. And you over exaggerate the amount of sound lost.

Not trying to insult you but let me point out whats wrong with this.
1. Most files in stepmania are 192kbps to begin with. 320 is just wasted extra space.
2. Chances are yours, and everyone elses audio equipment in here is nowhere near good enough in order to discern the difference between 192kbps and 320kbps. Other than that it is probably the placebo effect.
3. Really want things in high quality try stepping flac or wav files, but again wasted space.

Well, bit rates usually determine an audio files quality. It all depends on the original file and samplerates of the audio upon render. Compression artifacts occur when you decompress and recompress the file. 320kbs is the highest mp3 supports... The lower you go in bit rate the more data you take out from the file. Smaller bit rates usually result in the low end and high end frequencies to be removed. You'd get more of a 'muddy mix'. People do not usually hear a difference because they're use to bad quality audio. If you start listening to WAV/AIFF, FLAC, OGG files... You'll start to hear differences. Just gotta train your ears to it.

And with that, has anyone finished stepping those songs yet?

also from stepping for as long as i have. i can tell when the audio quality sucks. even more so when i have both 192 and 320 to compare.

Anyway I am coming to an impass thanks to WC as to which "stepping and playing are both different in this matter" It would be better to step in 320 yes, but for the people that are playing the file i am sure they wouldn't mind it in 192.
