Tournies usually don't excite low-level people. Add to that the number of elite players in this, and you can see where they're coming from.

^ that and they're a bit intimidating to lesser skilled players, therefore you hardly see any D1/D2 sign-ups in most big tournaments. not to mention, most of the collective community is in the D3-D5 range, which makes these larger than D1-2 and 6 combined.
