Step It Up - the Jewish Dancing Game

This isn't me trying to be funny, just for everyone's information. I've found out from AIJ, another rhythm gaming forum, that this was happening. You can get the "game" from here, or another of their retailers. Here's the funny part:

    More about it:

Apparently, someone found it intelligent to take a build that's obviously a copy of Stepmania 4, and not only sell that build with a ton of songs, but ALSO steal a ton of community files. For those of you who can recognize them -- there's some r21freak community files, some ITG Rebirth files, and a lot of charts taken without the consent of their respective owners. Even worse, artists haven't even been asked for licensing.

I wonder what's going to happen -- Stepmania isn't exactly the cleanest of games in terms of copyrights and licensing, but...

...it doesn't mean that people can take charts from other people and sell them. They're like screwing copyrights twice. I mean, we do play and step songs from people who probably don't even imagine their music are being used in a rhythm game, but we don't make any profit over it, so it's okay in terms of copyrights, I guess.

Taking a look at the game now.

Edit: Yup, it does look like a lot like the most recent SM 4 builds. And to think they're selling it...
Also, I'm still trying to get the "Jewish" thing.

    Edit 2:

Step It Up comes complete with interactive dance pads and 60 hit songs from top Jewish artists like Lipa, The Chevra, Dovid Gabay, YBC, and more
    Oh, now I get it.

but as I think about this... didn't ITG do the same thing technically? They basically used Stepmania 3.95 right? I'm not entirely sure on it, but I think that's how it is. So in other words, ITG did somewhat the same thing this guy is doing, except they actually had artists create songs for the game. Are the situations similar?

But ITG created their own theme/ui kinda so they didn't STEAL everything, or am I wrong

Exactly as Staiain said, their UI was based off of Stepmania, but it was in fact a re-code. Artists gave Roxor consent for song licensing, and whatnot. A lot of people misunderstand the reason why Roxor got sued in the first place - it involved upgrading cabinets, not just the premise of ITG itself. In this instance, you have created content (charts) that other people have made and never spoken to the person(s) responsible for this content, and you have artists who don't have proper licensing.

                EDIT: lol Eric

Re: Step It Up - the Jewish Dancing Game

I see, so basically Step It Up didn't make their own code, they stole songs from ITG without consent, as well as charts, right?
I also looked at their website, they have a copyright or something. 0_o

A huge majority of the songs in the Techno/Instrumental section of that game don't belong to them and there's past posts in development forums for these packs that can prove it.

                      wat

Edit: So, let me get this straight:

They have copyrights for things that do not belong to them so shamelessly? What's the opinion of the stepartists "featured" in this game about this whole thing?

I thought the same thing, and the song usage is quite similar to FFR overall.
