    Dance Dance Revolution and FFR

    Hello everyone!

I am Ickalanda(Mick) and I am newer to the site, and FFR is the first rhythm game that I have ever dedicated any time too. Also, I have literally never played DDR.

I have noticed that most of you play or used to play DDR (makes sense, honestly). So I was wondering, do you think playing DDR has helped with FFR? What about vice versa, does playing FFR help your DDR skills improve?

I figured that a DDR veteran would have an easier time immediately with arrow recognition (I originally had a difficult time with faster "chord" arrows, although it is starting to click now).

I hope to try playing DDR at some point, and I feel like my FFR experience will help greatly with that.

Also, which do you think is more difficult? DDR or FFR? And one more thing, which of the two do you prefer?

Thanks, I hope to get some responses, will be interesting to see from someone who is just getting into the genre (even though rhythm games have been dropping in popularity lately).

DDR has definitely helped with FFR. The hand eye coordination stuff.
FFR is way more difficult to me because i get hand cramps, blurry vision, etc. But DDR makes you tired and sweaty. But it's easier for me to play for example, Max 300 with my fingers and AA it on stepmania, but i'd fail from being so tired at the arcade.
    But i prefer DDR(or ITG/PIU), because it's a workout. (:

DDR was the reason I joined FFR, but I didn't have any initial skill in FFR after being able to hold my own on Heavy.

FFR helps tremendously with reading skills and DDR becomes a joke. All you have to do is learn the muscle memory for your legs and have stamina if you can read.

Before I started playing FFR, I was playing Heavy on DDR. I started with SM afterwards and I was pretty good at it because I was easily able to read arrows.

I didnt have any rhythm game experience before ffr. Ive literally been playing as long as Ive had this account (Minus the 10 months ffr was down, and a month when my computer was down), obviously I played guitar hero or something every once in a while at a friends house. But FFR is all I got xD

Well, since they're basically two different kinds of rhythm games (one on hands, one on feet), I think both have their positive and negative points, and hard and easy parts as well. For me, DDR is harder than FFR, since I'm more experienced with the latter, but maybe, for padders, FFR becomes harder, since they have more experience with feet instead of hands. I don't know, maybe if you play both, you can be good on both, then DDR and FFR become easy at their "styles".

I prefer FFR. I just can't play on pad.

Hello. I just wanted to say I've been playing ITG/DDR/PIU for 9 years total. I can easily say that playing these games before joining FFR has made it SUPER EASY. I've been playing stepmania long before FFR so I guess that helped as well.

My timing is excellent in the arcade, here not so much. I don't know if its the game.. or my computer but it lags.

DDR is going to be more difficult because you have to shift all of your body weight around. But you'll get used to it.

If you played FFR before playing DDR it will help, definitely. But you're still going to feel awkward on a DDR pad for the first time. They are not nearly as sensitive as an ITG pad.

Yes, it helps. Rhythm is Rhythm, no matter how it is processed. Playing FFR or SM can help improve your accuracy, no doubt. How well that transfers over to your feet varies person to person. I started playing ddr in 03/04 and turned away from it after I could AAA heavy 7s and 8s and could pass any song. Call it boredum, I just had nothing left to focus on. Started to play doubles but that costed 2 swipes, which i eventually found out was 4 dollars a pop.

Id give the difficulty edge to FFR/SM because you can make these charts as hard as you want.

That being said nothing beats being surrounded by 40+ while trying to play a game. Those were the days. Excitement factor goes to DDR Extreme.

To me, it doesn't matter which one you play first, but it will benefit other rhythm games as you start to play them. Rhythm is the basis on which these games run on, so even playing in a drumline would help these games be easier to learn.

I've played DDR for 8.5 years, and online rhythm games (FFR, SM, etc.) for 4 years. I do admit, I started at a very high level due to be used to DDR. Also playing and reading music enabled me to learn rather quickly.

I think DDR is harder than FFR. Speed and accuracy isn't the only ways to get better, but athelticism has some part in it. I have seen people of all sizes play, but there is a limit to how much you can handle rhythm games using your feet depending on how fit you are.

They are both fun in their own way. Wanting to freestyle would go great with DDR, while practicing songs and honing your skills is done quicker on FFR (due to not passing out). They both have their pros and cons, but they are fun games.

                  For the tl;dr people:

I play DDR and FFR. DDR is harder, but I like both.

Well I'm a pro at pretty much all video games I play but I do especially love to play rhythm games. I played DDR well before FFR and I could play every song on Heavy or even Challenging and I also play a lot of Guitar Hero and I can 5 star every song on expert. I think playing these 2 games have helped me play FFR much better since I already had good arrow recognition and I and also had good reaction time. If I had to choose I would go with FFR being my more favorite just because of the nice selection of music.

only kidding. I started both around the same time, but I played ffr and stepmania around the same time too, and I never really played ddr avidly until about a year afterwards. when I did, I noticed that I could read the arrows easily, but my stamina sucked. I was a fat ass kid for the longest time D: But I kept playing, and lost about 60 pounds for playing ddr avidly in half a year. Confidence went up exponentially Haha, DDR helped me a little, to be honest.
