    Eragon

Just saw this, and I thought it was very good, can't say it didn't follow the book, cuz I haven't read it. Anyone else seen this yet? Like it or not?

    Re: Eragon

Eragon: Era-gone. Dragon-D+E. Punny title, no? I had read the abysmal reviews before going to this movie, but what most reviewers miss is the ability to immerse themsevles in a movie more than they would like, which is truly their loss. While this movie is no "Lord of the Rings," it is a fairly sweeping, decent fantasy story with borrowed plot elements and some good performances (especially Jeremy Irons) that culminate in a decent cookie-cutter story about a chosen one who has to save the day from an evil king. The Dragon looks fantastic and the movie, while not to the top of the fantasy scene, makes me want a ****ing dragon. 6.5/10

It wasn't a great movie, but it was still good.

      I'd say 7/10

        Re: Eragon

The movie pretty much sucked cause I've read the both books that are out for the trilogy so far, the story line sort of followed what it was supposed to be but some parts were just plain messed up, kind of like if you saw he (Eragon) just all of a sudden had a sword and starts using it then Brom gives him the sword afterwords... but whatever I'd probably give it a 2/10 just for the dragon cause she's probably the only sweet part of the movie that wasn't screwed.

I haven't seen the movie, but I want to. I have heard a lot about how it didn't follow the book. Something like, ripping the pages out, jumping on them, lit them on fire and roasted marshmellows over the book. I want to see the movie, and all lthe people that read the book and saw the movie were disappointed because it didn't follow the book too well.

            Re: Eragon

The acting was okay. My problem is more with the actual plot itself.

It was just so generic and unoriginal it was difficult to watch. That and the script wasn't terribly well written either. The whole movie had a 'i've seen this before' feel to it and didn't leave me very satisfied.

I guess the action and such was OKAY, and as such I'm sure some people will enjoy it that are willing to accept the poor plot and overlook some of the bad lines.

Like some of it was just so cheezy and you wondered why these people were together and doing the things they were doing, since they hardly talked really. I think the elf girl had like 3 lines the whole film yet he was totally ready to die for her. And then the other random guy that appears in the woods to lead them through the forest.

Also, the whole 'we can't fly on this dragon I have lets take really long, dangerous paths across the ground instead of simply flying at like mach 6 to our destination. Dragon, you go fly ahead I'd rather take this horse; 1 horse power is more my style'

What on earth. There were numerous plot holes as well; it wasn't explained properly at times and it felt like you had to have read the book. But then the movie wasn't like the book so I'm not sure what's going on here.

At least it had some fancy battles and graphics.

            5/10

i didn't like it at all. i read all the books in the trilogy (Eragon & Eldest) which were pretty good but the movie was just horrible. and for the dragon's voice (Saphira) they should have had Cate Blanchett do it. the only thing i liked about it was the dragon. they should've let Peter Jackson direct it.

                Re: Eragon

Peter Jackson totally would direct a movie that rips off his 'masterpiece.'

From what I gather, people that read the books hated it, people that haven't thought it was alright. So, I guess I'm lucky for not having read the book, considering the tepid reviews it gets and it allowed me to enjoy the movie.

I loved both eragon and eldest. When I heard a movie was coming out I was like **** YEA I wanna see this, but after reading some horrendous reviews of it and hearing it was absolutely terrible from a guy at school I'm not even gonna bother.

                    Haha, the exact OPPOSITE.
I've read the book, but the welfare theater in this place hasn't got the movie in yet.
The book was great, although hard to follow at the start.

The plot wasn't indepth and the characters didnt develop.

The CGI was good, yet the baby dinosaur sucked.

                      THe movie overall was ok.

I read the book, and I found it to be highly derivative.

Let me sum up the plot real quick:

A farm boy who lives outside a small, insignificant town accidentally stumbles upon something the evil Empire needs - the key to the rebels' victory. The farm boy comes home one day to find his uncle killed - but thankfully, the wise old town hermit helps the boy escape. He informs the boy that he is the last of a once great order of knights with a secret power. The boy has that power too, and in time (and with the hermit's help) he will come to learn that power. The hermit teaches the boy the ways of the power, which also include swordfighting. Meanwhile they are being pursued by the forces of the evil Empire. The hermit is eventually killed while trying to protect the boy, forcing the boy to turn to the help of a wisecracking rogue who has not a care in the world. After rescuing a beautiful princess the boy had seen a glimpse of before, the boy, the rogue, and the princess meet up with the rebels. In the great and epic battle that follows, the boy unexpectedly defeats the 2nd-in-command of the evil Empire and becomes the hero of the day. Stay tuned for the sequel!

I read the book and thought it sucked... a lot. It was roughly written and the plot borrowed far too heavily from the genre. There was no originality. At first it was like "Hmm a 15 year old wrote a fantasy book. Interesting." Then after reading it "Yeah, a 15 year old definitely wrote that."

You're the only person I've seen to imply that the plot was ripped off of Star Wars.

You should tell Joseph Campbell that people are cashing in on the archetype of 'hero's journey' that he penned.
