You're the only person I've seen to imply that the plot was ripped off of Star Wars.

You should tell Joseph Campbell that people are cashing in on the archetype of 'hero's journey' that he penned.

I noticed that too, it related to starwars way too well. Especially "A new hope", cause if you look at the storyline and all of the characters they are like a perfect match except they are in different time frames. I just wrote a huge list of the similarities between the two and clicked submit reply which only sent me to another search engine page... so basically it was all erased. Maybe ill get over my frustration and redo the list sometime later, but not right now. The only thing im waiting to see is when you find out everyone is related to each other somehow (evil betrayal guy = new hope kids dad. you get the picture)and then ill be convinced that someone was sharing ideas.

Once again, while it's not uncommon to run into similarities, keep in mind Paolini was 15 when he started writing - his influences aren't going to be as well hidden as other authors. Second, STAR WARS was based off a basic archetype called "The Hero's Journey" which involves, believe it or not, a sage-like character, an unlikely call to adventure, an unlikely hero, betrayel, relation, a trip to the underworld, and finally culminating with the hero being crowned the king of 'both worlds.'

So, if anything, you should be complaining that Paolini followed the Hero's Journey too closely, because Star Wars ALSO used the EXACT SAME archetype to base it's story around.

Well i didnt mean to say that starwars was a completely original and wonderfully masterpieced piece of film making. While the same type of storyline exists in other books and such, i was mearly stating that the eragon movie and A new hope were like ALMOST EXACTLY the same as far as the characters and every step of conflict goes.

And if you look at it, they're both similar to Lord of the Rings.

Like I said, there's a basic archetype. There's also inspiration. There's also a fine line between them, and it's a fifteen year old writing the story.

But the similarities, while obvious, can be listed for a number of other works. Annyyyways, yeah, Paolini sucks at writing and he's derivitive as hell.

Movie was great. Only the first one so wait until the next one it will surely be better.

The book was mediocre (eh...not great, not bad; it was better than Eldest, at least).

The movie was a bust.
