You've basically classified DBZ in that summary there. Good job. Way to account for all the other thousands of better shows.

The male characters aren't always big beefy guys. Actually, they are RARELY the big beefy guys. There's quite a wide range of them. You have perverts, programmers, weaklings, wanna-bes, etc. Of course, some animes still use the classic representation of a strong main character (GTO, for example), but they make it work better than in those shows.

The women of anime aren't just ditsy idiots either. I can list dozens of female leads who are completely the opposite. It's once again a rarity to see your definition of women in anime.

It seems your perception is either solely based on DBZ, or DBZ with Inuyasha mixed in. Both of those shows were pretty bad. Do not base your perception off of only a few shows.

Please, if you're going to make an argument about this, list the shows you've seen for us. It'll help us to determine if you really need to broaden your horizons before making judgments or if you've got a good enough hold on the subject to make an opinion.

Personally, I hated anime myself for a good 4 years. I saw Cardcaptors and hated it. I saw DBZ and grew tired of it really fast. I saw tons of new animes being added to the Toonami lineup that looked horrible. So I ditched anime. Couple of years down the line, my friend shows me episode 5 of Cowboy Bebop. That made me realize just how awesome anime could be. From there, I saw Trigun and (of course) loved it. Then I shifted gears and saw Chobits and Love Hina. At that point, I was pulling in every anime I could find that other people seemed to enjoy and just non-stop watched it. I will never grow tired of anime.

Besides, it's a heck of a lot better than the crap they put out on American TV.

I don't know the names of individual shows but I can tell you alot of the stuff I see the shows on.

Everything that was on Toonami like four centuries ago.
Mostly everything on adult swim.
I watched winamp animes every now and then, not the porn. :/

Love Hina a couple of times, that got boring, same with Kenshin, saw most of them and it was cool for a while then sucked. Saw a little bit of Chobits, like 20 minutes. I got sick and tired of the Trigun mangas but they were ok for a while, my friend is obsessed with it so I have read some of it.

I just have different tastes in media than you squeek, I am not meaning to attack people who like anime, I am just voicing my opinion on anime. I just really don't see what people see in them really.

Another reason I don't like it is because almost everyone at my school doesn't like anime except for about 30 people, so it kind of rubs off.

Not really. Who said I was? I started not liking anime in 6th grade, when everyone loved it, so I am not trying to fit in.

Yeah, I'd say watch some good animes, prime examples being Elfen Lied and Mai HiME.

I know Squeek/Kefit/insertanimefreakhere will murder me for saying this, but:

I watch anime when it's available. I do like anime, but I don't go out of my way to buy it and such. I guess you could say I'm a very casual anime watcher. If it's on Encore Action, Anime Unleashed on G4TV, or otherwise, I might just watch it. The only stuff I've ever taped is Rurouni Kenshin and the Street Fighter II series. Kenshin when I wanted to see it, but wasn't around, and Street Fighter II because I didn't feel like staying up past midnight just to watch it.

That's pretty much a couple of anime's but there are thousands of others that are the total opposite of what you stated. Not all the guys are always big and beefy, not all the girls are always petite(sp?) and ditzy, and they do yell, alot at times but it's worth it because it's funny. The facial expressions may get over done, but the people who create it are HUMAN, and they make mistakes. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. Of course that's just IMO.

There are so many better shows than what they put on Adult Swim. Almost every show is better than what the put on Toonami.

You'll hear me admit that a lot of animes suck. Rurouni Kenshin was a horrible anime. The best part was the prequel OAV. All 75 episodes suck. So, I can give you that one. Chobits and Love Hina might not be for you. I have a friend that solely watches hardcore action anime and nothing else. He doesn't hate anime, he justs limits his tastes of it.

I don't know your tastes, but if you're looking for good shows, I recommend seeing:

Elfen Lied - Horror / "comedy".
Mai-HiME - Drama / comedy.
Bleach - Action / comedy.
Naruto - Action
S-cry-ed - PURE action.
Ghost in the Shell - Action.
Excel Saga - Comedy
FLCL - Action

Don't ever watch the crap on Toonami or Adult Swim. It all sucks. Except for Outlaw Star, back when they showed it. Only cool show ever on Cartoon Network. Well, except for ATHF. Yeah.

You need to watch Galaxy Angel, because all of its characters destroy all three of these stereotypes (aside from Mint and maybe Milfeulle).

I would describe GITS more as Intelligent Action.

Anyways, I just dig the eyes. And the fact that when you make a cartoon, you aren't limited by hundreds of thing that would limit a live-action show or something. You can draw anything.

I love anime. But most people here know that.

If you don't like it, that's fine. There are many many things in this world, so it is not surprising that anime isn't something that you particularly care for.

And the anime on Adult Swim/Toonami are kind of like gateway drugs. They aren't the greatest things out there, but chances are, if you don't initially like them before being exposed to better series, then you aren't going to like the rest of animedom either.
