The Twenties were an interesting time. At least when they were roaring, there was a class of wealthy people who tended to only get wealthier. For those people, aspects of cultural competency like saving face were all the more important. You didn't want to miss out on a chance to maintain, or elevate, your family status.
But weather changes all of that. In ways, a blizzard makes for the perfect excuse not to go anywhere, even in places where feet of snow is business as usual. It sure makes planning a dinner absolutely dreadful.
