.psds for all my stepmania gfx

heyo, i loaded on MEGA the .psd files for everything i've made so far and still keep the original files, as i used to not save the project file. I did this so people who wanna make gfx on their own can take a look inside my projects and see how i made certain things

Remember one thing: the way i do things in photoshop for stepmania isn't very professional at all, i just became really fast at doing it and the results are usually decent. Don't take it as a golden rule of graphic making or something!!

awesome idea Mollo, if anyone ever gets a mindblank for a gfx set they can use a particular set as a reference. Hopefully this will be a great tool for other designers

normally I'd tell you that it's never a good idea to give away your source files, but it's stepmania so it's w/e tbh—as a designer working in the field, I was (and still am) constantly nagged on by all my professors and coworkers to avoid sharing source files in almost all cases because nothing good can come out of it, lol.

but anyways, what I did notice in various files I opened is that you could really benefit from using and incorporating smart objects, layer masks, clipping paths, and adjustments into your work. it greatly improves workflow, saves a shitload of time, and gives you infinitely better control over drastic changes rather than modify a raster image and having to revert changes via your history window or mashing ctrl+z/cmd+z.

I guess as an example, in the cases where you're cutting out say a character from another image to use in your composite, the colour range tool+layer masking and/or calculations+channel masking saves so much time, looks infinitely better, and gives you so much more control if you have to go back and edit your masking if you notice something off.

I also do realize the fact that what I mentioned is probably all stuff you already know but you were just too lazy to use any of it for STePMaNia GFX, but I thought I'd comment anyways in the hopes that something you don't know will be looked into and learned xd. I personally find seeing the design process involved way more interesting than the final image itself when it comes to photo composition work like this, so thanks for sharing

When i make stepmania gfx i basically layer things very quickly and don't care too much about little details as long as the result is aesthetically pleasant overall, and i've become really really quick at it! But on the other hand even when i make professional graphics i should improve on the techniques you mentioned because i honestly only rarely use them... In the latest months i've been trying to improve my skills from a technical point of view so my workflow is organized better. Thanks for the feedback

That's what i think as well! Looking at a composition from the inside makes it far more interesting to watch and is always a great starting point to make your own variations on the theme.

Definitely fun things to look through. This is a type of thing that I enjoy doing, layering with blend modes with various styles of masking or whatever, with elements that are slightly abstract, but convey the theme well. Keep it up, and it's good that you don't stick to a formula. This sort of thing is best done stream-of-consciousness style.
