General Profile FAQ (Tips for newbie profile designers here!)

There's still a few questions being asked about profiles lately. I'll just put this here.

    1.--- General Questions

1.1-- How do I change my Background?

First, click Show Style Editor. You should get this:

Now click "Default Background/Header Style Editor

Then look around the center of the screen for this box of settings.

When you find it, click "Upload Background," and then upload the background of your choice.

When you are done, click "Update." It shouldn't take very long.

1.2-1 How do I upload a header image?

First, click Show Style Editor. You should get this:

Now click "Default Background/Header Style Editor

Then look around the center of the screen for this box of settings.

    [Sorry no image!]

When you find it, click "Upload Header," and then upload the background of your choice.

When you are done, click "Update." It shouldn't take very long.

1.2-2 Why do people have a bigger area at the top than I do?
They created an invisible header image. To do this, take out your image editting program, and make a new document with nothing on it. You will want literally nothing on it. Just create the image, and save it. You have now created your invisible header.

1.3-1 How do I change my profile style?
This is a common question, and not a stupid one either. You might feel a little foolish for not finding it sooner, but don't worry, there are many others who have this question as well.

Hover over "Your Profile" to activate the drop down menu. Click "Change Profile Style."

1.3-2 Some people's profiles are thinner and set-up differently than others. Why?
Some time around the rebirth of FFR, we were introduced to a new profile style. If you hear the phrases "V1," "V2," it is referring to this. The new profile style has a more streamline design with page indexes. It also gives artists more room so they can design freely.

1.3-3 I accidentally switched to V2! I didn't want this, how can I switch back?!
Just follow the steps for switching into V2. It's interchangeable, so once you have changed, you can always change back if you don't like it.

    1.4-1 I can't upload my background!
Is it larger than 512kb? Try toggling the quality of the image to something lower than what you have.

    1.4-2 How can I shrink background's filesize?!

The standard method for profile backgrounds is to save it as a .JPEG/JPG. The reason you should be saving your profiles in JPG format is
    • Smaller Filesize
    • Better Compression
    • Quality Adjustment

If you are using a .PNG as your background expect it to be a bigger file. The quality can't be adjusted on a PNG, so just convert it in an image editor and you will be good to go.

If you're using Photoshop, you can use the Save for Web feature:

The save for web option is under File and below "Save As.." and "Save a Version" in Photoshop

Set the parameters to JPG. In the lower left you can view your filesize. If your file size is too big or too small, adjust the quality.

1.5 How do I change the words underneath my username/avatar?

That's called a 'user title' and you can only access the option to change it if you have become a veteran. This means you have to have 3,000,000,000+ grand total score and have been a member for at least 3 years.

If you have already become a veteran, look under your UserCP/Control Panel for 'Edit Your Details.' The first field on the second portion of that page will allow you to change your user title.

Make sure you have your 'User Group' set to 'FFR Veteran' or higher before attempting to access the field

    2.--- V1 Profile Questions

    Placeholder

    3.--- V2 Profile Questions

3.1-1 What is the max size for a V2 Profile?
Width-wise, there is a maximum. If your profile is under 995px wide it will loop horizontally. The max size for length is infinite. Otherwise, the size limit in filesize is 512KB for non-veterans and 1MB for veterans.

3.1-2 I see a bunch of profiles without tiling. How did they do that?
They used an exploit to get around the looping. They increased the length of the profile so it is longer than the page is tall. In other words, they increased the height to somewhere around 2000-3000 pixels. If you have a taller profile you're going to want to increase the height in pixels.

3.2-- How do I match my avatar to my background?
I'm just going to copy/paste my guide from this thread
But first you should know that you could always align your profile with a screenshot and still get the desired effect. It's just not as easy.
    What you will need:
My Invisible Banner for your Header:

My V2 Profile Template (can work with V1's template, but I am going to use V2's)
MediaFire is a simple to use free service that lets you put all your photos, documents, music, and video in a single place so you can access them anywhere and share them everywhere.

And if you need to use this, you can..

How you are going to do it:
Magic Wand, and Copy and Paste! (CTRL+X, CTRL+V)

    Here's how:
    Step 1!
Open my Template and open up the "Appropriate and Exact Sizes" folder.
(No image, sorry! Step 2 will have one though! ^-^

    Step 2!

Ctrl+V/Paste the image you would like to make as your avatar.
Make sure the layer is BELOW the avatar layer!

    Step 3!

Line the Image up where you want your avatar to show with the Move Tool.
Click the Avatar layer and use the Magic Wand to select the black square

    Step 4!

Click on the layer with your image that you want as your avatar.
Hit CTRL+X/Cut the selection out of the area. You now have the image copied to your clipboard. To get the image back onto the area press CTRL+Z/Undo. This is unnecessary though, so you don't HAVE to.

    Step 5!

Make a new image with the dimensions of 200Width and 200Height. (200x200)

    Step 6!

Paste the image down on the new image!
Congratulations! Now save the image and use it as your avatar.

Downloading the template and following these steps, you should get:

I've heard people have been looking for templates...
I'm pleased to present to FFR 2 Templates for your profile making needs! The first is a template for the 1st FFR Profile Style. The second is for the 2nd FFR Profile Style. I have included close to exact measurements (they may be a bit off depending on each profile!) and recommendations by me of where and how big some things should be. I won't do all the work though, the designing is up to you!

I realize that this may draw potential customers from profile makers, but if you guys make your profiles spiffy enough so they cannot be topped by other artists, and draw a crowd you'll still do well in drawing the too lazy, and unwilling people.

So, without further ado, here are the templates.

And as a extra tidbit, here is the link to toggle your bars to a marble texture.

    Have fun making profiles now.
Comments? Anything I could've done better?

It's a good go to guide, but please tell me you fixed your v2 template. Because when I'd originally downloaded it, it was wrong and the avatar didn't line up right and the gamer boxes were too small for someone like myself who has a longer username.

You can always screen capture your profile and a new profile on top of it in PS. That way everything is aligned perfectly and you don't have to use the template to create. Plus you're able to create custom sized avatars using this technique.

I do not intend to fix my template, it's a piece of sht lol.
I don't even use templates, I just screenshot like ihc said. I only posted that so it would make it easier for newbie profiles to come out.

-fixed up some things.. I almost forgot about this. I know I will again.

A nice guide so far, I've been editing my profile a bit after being inactive for about a year so I'll be checking back to pick up more tips

A question I'd like to ask, on your profile underneath your avatar it reads "LJxHero 4eva~<3" and mine "FFR Player" I'm just wondering if this is something you can change yourself? if so, how do you do it?

              Thanks!

you need to be a veteran to do that, so you need to get 3bil total points since you already met the time being a memeber requirement

                    Nice guide. Sticky this.

Sucks I'm no where near the 3bil limit. 7,954,670 total points. This isn't my original account, but I hardly play the game like I used to.

If you're using photoshop, you can just ss your profile and paste it on a new project. Then you can just build over it. Also, if you don't want to do that, psuedo posted a overall template that fits pretty well.

Ok, so I'm here because I'm need the pixel dimensions people have used for their profiles.

I'm doing this on Procreate from my iPadpro so until I get around to doing trial and error, im wondering if anyone else has done something similar. Anyone done this on Procreate already ?

its been SO long since I last had fun doing this<3

maximum size for profile header image is 960x200, it's centered.

maximum size for profile background image is 995xhowever-long-you-want-it.

If you're wondering about template stuff/exact profile content positioning, it entirely depends on which browser you're using, since each browser views profile content differently. Easiest way is to just take a screenshot of your profile in the desired layout, and then work on a background over top of the sample.
