Maybe its just because I've played so many files from Iamme that had plain stupid difficulty spikes in files that weren't supposed to be that difficult is kind of why I didn't mind aspects like the one burst in Kaneh's file. And in a lot of my older stuff, and possibly in some of my newer stuff, those spikes still tend to get in the way, but for me, I always find that to be another nice element of a song. Its like in guitar hero, especially the older songs, that would have ridiculous difficulty spikes when a lot of the song is rather chill, some examples of those being Cult of Personality, Knights of Cydonia, Jordan to some extent (as long as you didnt know that there was a huge difficulty jump in the solo), and hell even songs like Blackened had dumb spikes in them where you had to work extra hard on that. And I really don't mind that. I love having to practice certain sections like that to be able to get that portion good, rather than reading it no problem on sight. Its enjoyable. To me at least. But then again, I'm just weird.

I don't necessarily blame you for this attitude. I don't know how experienced you are in this community and if you understand this kind of environment. However, you should know that this is not how we do things, and if you don't want to be shunned by the community you should probably buck up and take criticism like a man. If someone's criticism is valid, you take it. If it's not valid, you take it and choose to ignore it. Simple as that. Calling people butthurt only opens up drama, and you're instigating it.

I did not even mention a single specific chart in my post. I wasn't criticizing a specific chart. Rather, I was trying to explain the psychology behind why these things are undesirable. If you want a stronger argument, I can explain why these things are not exactly desirable in terms of practical qualities as well. People who play charts for fun look for connections between the music and notes, justified by some correlation. Arbitrarily spiking the difficulty breaks that correlation and aesthetic. People who play charts for competition prefer charts that are conducive to a competitive environment. Difficulty spikes don't benefit this goal. For example, it then becomes very difficult to determine how many combo breakers sourced from the spike and how many sourced from the constant BPM stream. There is a large variance in scoring of burst sections versus consistent sections. This makes it far more difficult to judge the skill level of a player consistently.

I honestly don't care to be a sarcasm detector or troll police at this point. With this shitty level of constructive discussion I wanted to contribute however I can so as to not let the community fall apart. Back in the days of ODI this was actually a significant problem, and it made the community very difficult to approach for a lot of people.

I couldn't care less if he was trolling. Posts were made, and I respond to them how I see fit.

Yeah well, at some we do need to find an appropriate balance here. Obviously this is a recreational activity that is not critical to our lives, but we also don't go to a cooking forum and tell people that ultimately looks and taste don't matter because it ends up in our stomach anyways.

The vast majority of people playing video games are just accomplishing pointless goals and doing so with zero monetary gain. There are legitimate things to discuss (or argue about) in rhythm games, it just happens to be really trendy to say "lol who cares" on this website.
