I hate when in conversation with a group of people about someone's personal problems, regardless of what's being discussed, another person tries to make an analogy about a similar situation they've been in and how they overcame it personally. That sounds pretty asshole-ish of me if I stopped there, but I'm referring to the people that try to make this analogy regardless of how obscure or specific the person's problem is, often to the point where their comparison makes almost literally no sense, and their sole contribution to the discussion is this extremely left-field non sequitur that makes myself and others feel like they're only trying to shift the focus of attention to themselves. Also the fact that these people believe they can empathize with literally anything annoys me to no end.
