Because it was good enough, basically. A lot of hosting sites were in use back then. It might have also been a factor that they would pay users who had uploaded popular files.
Of course nowadays there are only a few really good ones

Unreals Solo links still work so I left those, but apparently all his singles links broke, so I removed those. Added all of Astraia's links (thank you so much <3), added all of everyone elses links (thank you all <3). Added the vocaloid 4-10 links, fixed the order of the ffr winter links. Removed some junk at the top of the op. Removed the dead links in the more packs section. All in all totally updated, if I missed anything let me know

These are the -main- download links for Spring'12 and Summer'12 which are uploaded under my account. The links are guaranteed to stay as a FYI and I'd prefer if people download from these rather than the mirrors, rofl. Thanks anyways, Astraia, but I don't see a point in mirroring already existing mediafire links that aren't going to be removed anytime soon.
