(Synexi) 0x1311 - This was actually one of my more liked files out of this pack. Was straightforward and fairly enjoyable. 6.5/10

(Torsann) All About Us - Holy shit I forgot about Torsann. Also lol this file caused so much controversy with that French ***got. I forget what his name was. DJ Poopsicle or something. Oh, it was Dragoonhead. Thanks Kommi.
      Oh. The file. Right.
This is a huge pile of shitty, inconsistant layering and right handed biased shit. The only thing worse was how bad this file originally was before he redid it for the 100th time. 2/10

(Trance Corn) Arabian Rave Night - I miss him. He was my favorite little Chilean.
There is some inconsistant layering at times, some of the holds are a bit long, and a couple of the patterns get a bit wonky. Not absolutely terrible though. 4/10

(Scylaxx) Aztec Templing - Layering on the jumps is inconsistant in the beginning, then it's just like HEY YOU LIKE NOTES, I'LL JUST SLAM DOWN ON 1234 AND SEE WHAT COMES UP. That's what we have Cetaka for. 2.5/10

(Buizel vs SacredInsanity) Black Apple - Assist tick on this song still sounds great even after all these years.
Other than some faulty PR and inconsistant hold usage, I'm still fairly proud of this file. Oh, and it needs mines. Totally needs mines. 6.5/10

(Synexi) Bomberman: The Second Attack - lol I remember you sending me this. Wasn't this like the first file you made as Syenxi?
Just short enough to avoid being repetitive. Patterns feel completely random though. 5/10

(XOX) Border of Life V2 - Layering is completely inconsistant, holds are too long, that jack out of nowhere is retarded, and his username is too symmetrical. On the plus note, the gfx are cool. 2/10

(NTM vs Trumaestro) Chokehold - I remember that Trumaestro's was better so reviewing that one. The 24ths are clean and fun to hit. Some of the jump bursts are not, however. There's some missed layering opportunities. Still not bad though. 4.5/10

      (Buizel) Death Moon II -

      3.5/10

(Kommi vs Syenxi) DMG Guitar - Gets really repetitive, and a lot of the patterns could be WAY better. Basically that. 4/10

(moches) Electrical Parade - Holy shit I forgot about this file. Minimalistic as shit, but it really works. One of the rare gems of this pack. 7.5/10

(Thanh) End of the Moonlight - I'm still convinced Thanh is secretly gay. Even with his fiancee.
File has a lot of inconsistant layering and a lot of bad PR. Meh. 3/10

(Cyrenics) Far From Home - Underlayered as all hell. I can't believe I told him this was okay haha. Wow I was dumb. 2.5/10

(Legacy) Feelings from the Air - If you're going to put a 32nd wall in there, don't underlayer the parts surrounding it. 3.5/10

(Mr Bob) Frozen Bond - Nice bursts. Really. Not really. 3/10

(NTM) FURY OF THE MOTHER ****ING STORM - Really the bad audio cut and fade does me in. File is bland and repetitive, but it's Dragonforce. So yeah. 2.5/10

(yotipo) Herbie Goes Ballistic - Some of the patterns are retarded (just like the song), but technically it's not terrible. 3.5/10

(Synexi) Kickflip - I Patrick-Du-Style hate the polyrhythms in this file. Like seriously. Kill yourself. 4/10

(Exlax) Lawn Wake XI - For what you were going for, this is surprisingly underlayered. If you're going for a fully-stepped dump, then don't clench your asshole partial way through and stop it. Let it come out as one nice, flowing log of shit. 3/10

(Moches) Little Drummer Punk Droid - Some PR and layering inconsistancies spread throughout. Kinda curious as to what you could do with this if you re-stepped it today. 4.5/10

      i love this review

Gonna start stepping more I think... I don't want No Such Thing or Like A Man to be my best files anymore.

It would probably help to stop stepping old school style and learn to step the nowadays style

                          XOON 4 BLUE VERSION

Eruption- i remember a whole bunch of stink about this file back in the day because of color notes, but it's still pretty fun. a heads up though, it's not as technically accurate as it'll get; you forgot to layer the hihats
Death Moon- you're literally awful for stepping this but nonetheless it's decent. song ****ing kills it though.
Blind Justice- lmao sup Kil. This file's great, not much else needs to be said.
                          Anti The Holic-
Piano x Forte x Scandal- wonderfully stepped file. accurate and fun to play

Like a Man- This is actually really fun for what it is, but i still prefer pat's file (even though it came out later)
Vidohunir- wow way to pick the worst song from Ar Tonlico. anyway this file's alright but it's nothing to write home about.
Accept The Fact- i really loathe how you do the fade in/fade out shit with your songs, but w/e. It's a decent file but feels like forever because it's just a fucen guitar solo
Necrofantasia- your layering's kinda inconsistent and also touhou
Phantom Ensemble- look i'm not usually a PR hound if your PR is so bad i can tell there's a problem with it while ****ing playing you need to rethink your file

Go Beyond!! Jazzy- lmao this was in an HSMP so i'm going to skip over it
To Make The END OF BATTLE- hey y'know this is stepmania, not paint on a wall. you don't have to have like 12 layers.

(BMR) A - This cut of the original version is lacking the ultra classic 16 bars stepped to percussion and/or imaginary stuff. Easily worth grabbing the full one somewhere else. 4/10

(Arch0wl) Absolute (Rock Guitar) - Fun, especially in the 24th note sections. I think the BPM might be a little off, though? idr 7/10

(Cynic) Abstract - Cool for the most part, but the minijacks are brutally not-fun. I mean, I guess you can't expect someone to predict which types of injected difficulty spikes will remain playable for people 8-9 years later who all play the game in a completely different way from back then... or can you? 5/10

(Ren) Act - Kinda like High, but not as cool. 5/10

(Radical Julian) Arrabbiata - I got his name right, right? IIRC he made dope graphics for everybody, and then a couple of his own super dope files came outta nowhere. Obviously very different from modern layering techniques, but his way of consistently placing certain patterns with certain parts of the music was pretty unique and pretty awesome. 8/10

(aperson) Brace Yourself - This file was all the rage while I was still playing toddlermania. So I'd talk about how I liked dukamok's and malice's charts better or something, but this classic transcends all my inane babbling. 6.4/10 or something

(Skorpion9x) Carezza - Skor's, right? I was thinking kil's at first, haha. This song has been restepped to high hell, but this is still a nifty little file with chill piano and chill 16th stream to go with it. 6/10

(Arch0wl) Classic 8 (Time Lines) - Should've released the super BS chart he said he had in the works for this file. This chart is cool, though. 5/10

(Skorpion9x) Csikos Post - Pretty sick. Love the way that the sets of 8th jumps sort of mirror each other; I mean, I know that is/was pretty common practice, but it just works really nicely here. Kilga restepped this (really really well), and there's this one part where Kilga dropped some notes Skor had and I was like whoa skor's was wrong, but technically there's some other stuff going on other than the strings that you could claim the notes sort of flow into. Yeah. 8/10

(Ren) Cynic - If Cynic had stepped this, it would've been the #1 name combo forever. The 8th jacks are ultra classic. Some of the rest of the chart is kind of iffy. Still, it holds a place in my heart for being prolly the toughest chart in KBMP. 6/10

                              (Mwerp) Dogura - Had to watch a youtube video of this, because I could only remember some of it rofl. A restep should have been included in KBMP1.5 ;_;
Very nice chart. I actually feel like the inaccuracies make the chart more interesting to play. This chart is one of the easiest in KBMP, which (to me) makes it one of the most memorable ones. The background is incredible, whoa! 8/10

(Skorpion9x) Dokudenpa - Probably my favorite Sharpnel file ever. Resteps of this were quite good, but to me, the magic in this chart is irreplaceable. 10/10

(Arch0wl) Drum Machine - how many simfiles were made using this type of minimalistic song back then? hell, how many files ever? well done. 8/10

(Taren) DXY! - I didn't like IVKAS stuff back in the day but it was a pretty good prelude to modern layering. this one, though... is kind of an imposter. fairly accurate but like 0% layering and only 25% pattern repetition. 5/10

(Cynic) Era (Step Remix) - hehe just noticed KBMP1.5 credited Taren for this chart. 99% sure that ain't right. hella bs stream everywhere <3 but the buildup during the slowdown is no joke. essential. 7/10

(Cynic) Felys (Long Version) - I remember loving this chart at the time but later finding its mysterious arrow methodology to be so incomprehensible I could barely play it.
                              /10

(Cynic) Fire - I had lots of h8 for this chart back in the day because my arrow keys wouldn't register before the holds&taps sections. probably better than I remember but I still can't shake the feeling it's a step down from most other kbmp files. 3/10

(Fooby) Fuego (Caliente Mix) - I even thought this was understepped at the time. like, early 2004 or whenever the hell. still fun though. great song choice. 5/10

(BMR) G2 - fun chart to a IIDX song that makes sense in certain parts and is completely rando in others. aka, a BMR file. never got as popular as A or V but was in the same league really. 6/10

(Arch0wl) Geno's Woods - chill song, chill chart. smrpg is da bomb. imo the kbmp files most worth coming back to are the easiest ones. 8/10

(BMR) Gravity - lolbpmchanges. I'm being completely unfair by evaluating it vs resteps, but I would never play this over Toph's really. 5/10

(Fooby) Guillaume Tell - oh whoops I was thinking Skor's chart was in here. standard but cool. 6/10

(Reach) Halloween (Speedy Mix) - aqua. 0/1

(Ren) High - super amazing forever. phantom 8th jumps and whatnot that I wouldn't in any song/notechart combo except this one. 9/10

(?) Holic - actually used some neat techniques I didn't get at all back then, but ehhhhhh 4/10

(Cynic) Hyper Boundary Gate - I still play this. jack sections are way 2 fun. 8/10

(Kilgamayan) It's a Small World (Ducking Hardcore Mix) - best song. chart is all over da place. definitely fun but not my type of bs chart. 5/10

(Skorpion9x) Jack - jax. has minijack chains in some of the jumpstream, but unlike other KBMP charts with the same issue, the speed here is slow enough for it to not matter. pretty great really. 8/10

                              (Skorpion9x) K8107 - jax. mega classic. 7/10

(Cynic & Ren) Karma - would rather have their two separate charts really. 5/10

(Skorpion9x) Karma - Emerald Sword is the only Skor power metal file U need. 3/10

(Arch0wl) Kick Your A - why are all these A songs cut? the ending to the full song is vital. nice easy chart though. 5/10

(Cynic) Lab - hell yeah. gotta play this one index so the crossovers actually mean something. this one aged much better than most other Cynic charts imo. 9/10

(aperson) Leading Cyber - nahhh 4/10

(Ensyther) M - fake Taka song right? haha whatever. straightforward 8th jump / 16th stream file. clasico. 7/10

(cmcm) Manhattan Sports Club - classic as FUC. held up well. I once played this on pad and failed miserably. 9/10

(Arch0wl) Max 300 (IIDX Version) - the first half is very IVKAS and the second half is very not. fun though. 6/10

(Konami peeps) Max 300 uhh pretty damn good for a DDR chart honestly. 6/10

(Konami ppl) MaxX Unlimited - itty bitty minijacks and hold sections were REBOLUCIONARY 7/10

(Cynic) Mind Parasite - wow the ending is such trash hahahaha. 1/10

(Kilgamayan) Never Gonna Come Back Down - precursor to latter-day jumpstream! sick song. 7/10

(Arch0wl) Oi Punk - there's just something about this simfile. song is ridiculous. what the hell, pop'n music? just played this and got 94mill hahah. impervious to becoming easier as you get better at SM somehow. only logical rating = 9/10

(Arch0wl) One Winged Angel - whoa, Arch did polyrhythms before I could even pretend to fathom such a thing. ¡excelente! 9/10

(Skorpion9x) Otaku Speedvibe - neato combination of DDR and keyboard stepping elements. difficulty spike at the very end makes it a horrible, horrible chart to play for scoring. 6/10

                              (Skorpion9x) P8107 - really good. 9/10

(Arch0wl) PARANOiA (Bounce Connected Mix) - horribly monotonous. 2/10

(Konami bros) PARANOiA Survivor MAX - I passed this once on pad ever. still scares me/10

(Arch0wl) PARANOiA -Respect- - kinda like Oi Punk difficulty-wise, but it has one hard part instead of two and it's lame instead of fun. 3/10

(Ren) Petrification - I'm still a sucker for most of Ren's bs, but this one doesn't do the trick. 4/10

(ddrmaniak or something) Pump Me Up Amadeus - woeful. even the name of the song is wrong. 2/10

(Mwerp) Prophetess - sick song. bonus points for being one of the most playable charts out of kbmp's most difficult offerings. 8/10

(Eggman) Quasar - the birth of cookie-cutter 16th stream??? it's an established classic but I'm a rebel. 3/10 WHAT NOW

(Cynic) R8U - maybe my favorite "create your own rhythms" chart ever? 9/10

(Ren) Reincarnation[a] - lol at how Ren thought she was being fan-c with the grace notes and then added one in the piano section where it didn't belong. cool chart. 7/10

(Cynic) Release Your Mind - kinda like Mind Parasite, only way more acceptable. bonus points for making a neat chart out of a song that should never have been stepped. 7/10

(Ren) Ride on the Light - the entire thing is 8th stream with jumps and a bogus mystery note between pairs of jumps. it just so happens to be fun as hell. 7/10

(aperson) Run the Place Red - iirc the kbmp1.5 version screwed up this chart. if you only keep five files from kbmp1, make RTPR one of them. 9/10

(Jello) S.O.S. - incredibly unfair again but just get Toph's if anything. 4/10

(individuals working for Konami) Sakura - wait was this really in kbmp? heavy is harder than oni, so -1/10

(Kilgamayan) Sakuranbo Kiss (from Colourful Kiss) - anime stuff not really my thing, but Kilga made it work, big time. 9/10

(Mwerp) Samurai Zero - simple, clean, effective. 8/10

(Jello) Senorita (Speedy Mix) - I'm sure some people would like this, but it's really not for me. 4/10

(Kilgamayan) Slam - not many charts out there quite like this one, I don't think. well done. 7/10

(Cynic) Snow - enjoyable nonsense. 6/10

(Toph) Somebody Like You - blargh. one of my least favorite Toph files. 4/10

(Eggman) Spooky - very interesting. there's some strict layering as well as some "I'm stepping this! - no, that! - wait, this!" kind of everything at once. the chart is really different and rather enjoyable. the speedup on the last note is just a middle finger to anyone with a good score going haha. 7/10

(Cynic) Star Field - out of this whole pack, I think this chart shows its age the most. that's not a bad thing, really. here's a pretty nice song that would have made for a seriously lame simfile based on typical note-to-sound principles, and instead we get a totally playable chart. more than anything I think it's a testament to the idea that different music lends itself to different stepping styles. 6/10

(Cynic) Summer Vacation (Bounce Connected Style) - sooooo laem compared 2 my restep for 1.5, pshh. just kidding. this one actually has a lot more in common with my chart than I had thought. some 24th stuff would make it more fun though. would be 6/10 but the minijack syndrome is outta control. 5/10

(Arch0wl) Super Mario Bros. (Dirty Mix) - kind of a super early attempt at stepping breakcore-type patterns, huh? it was fantastic back then, but it's not anymore. 4/10

                              (Arch0wl) Sync - get Toph's if you want a Sync simfile. don'tcare/whatever

(Mwerp) Tension - nonsense, and not in a good way. has there been a good restep of this? I'd like to play it. 4/10

                              (Skorpion9x) The 24th D - minijacks and 32nd trillz. cool song. 6/10

(Bronami) The Legend of MAX - mildly enjoyable nonsense. 4/10

(aperson) The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing - what's this? musical diversity in kbmp? I refuse 2 believe it. chart is very nice. 8/10

(Mwerp) Tougen 0 - idr if it's accurate or anything, but it's fun. 7/10

(BMR) V - what can I say here? it's a pretty rough translation of the IIDX chart. everyone has played it. most people find it fun, as do I. if you're stranded on a deserted hard drive and can only keep 10 simfiles, this one ought to make the cut. 8/10

(cmcm) V (Heavy Beat Remix) - a nice trilling exercise. I think more keyboard charts could use really calm, easy sections like this one has. dynamics in difficulty, if you will. 6/10

(Mwerp) Vanish into Thin Air - the difficulty spike close to the beginning is pretty awkward. good fun otherwise. 6/10

(Radical Julian) Vook - solid, but very dated and has since been restepped to perfection pretty much. 5/10

(Mwerp) Votum Stellarum - the simfile from KBMP is unplayable, because the last third or so was shifted an 8th note forward somehow. the chart itself is pretty great. I think a newer and more technical approach would fit the song much better. (thank you KBMP1.5!) notechart = 8/10, KBMP version = 0/10

(Kilgamayan) Waka Laka - a little rando at times, but nice overall. the song is unbelievably silly. 7/10

(Arch0wl) War Game - some nonsense notes here and there, which is weird considering how slow and straightforward the music is. still pretty badass. 7/10

(Arch0wl) Will O' the Wisp - this chart used to be oni. I liked the heavy chart best song doesn't really lend itself to being stepped semi-accurately like this. needs more bs. 4/10

(Cynic) Y31 - weak. simple 8th patterns with jumps would work just fine, but the notechart doesn't correspond to the music at all, and that just doesn't work here. 2/10

I heard "old packs" and I had to instant transmission here. kbmp is easily the most important old old stepmania relic, in my most humblin'est opinion. if you don't have at least 10ish of these files your simfile library is a failure.

o ya. disclaimer: reviews are opinions. my opinions mean no more than anyone else's. hopefully they're fun to read though

Real nice. Maybe I'll do 1.5 since that's a super clean/obvious transition point to the sorts of files that influenced me most :v
