and wtf why dont rappers count as musicians? and what are you writing that in reference to?

if you are looking for a band that just wants to sell records (or make money as the sole purpose of their music), try just about any band of everyone's favorite genre poppunk. yay fallout boy guys. i suppose that would be the rock parallell to MIMS since he evidently does not count.

edit: LOL just thought of this one. BOYBANDS-only around for money...and chicks. agreed? if not, i guess we'll keep this going...

A rapper is not a band. I don't mind if you want to call him a musician, which I'd still disagree with, but one single rap artist is not a band.

Nobody out there DOESN'T want money. I'm suggesting that there's no band that is 100% ONLY playing music in order to make money. As in, every member of the group wakes up each morning and says to his or herself "I wonder how much money I can make today."

For most bands, playing music is what they love to do. Making money from it is just a perk of the job.

Most tours exist in order to pull in profit, but also expand audiences. I mean, a worldwide tour. Playing English music in non-English-speaking countries. Tell me Linkin Park is only good for their lyrics when they sell out concerts in China, Japan, India, etc. Please. It's their sound that sells their albums.

Speaking of albums, I hope you're aware that artists make very little money from record sales. Most (90%+) of their profit is from merchandising and touring.

gotcha so rappers can be in it just for the money while "bands" do it cuz dey luv wut dey do. of course rap groups like nwa atmosphere or public enemy poke small holes in that theory but whatever.

as for the tour, i point out the huge profit raked in to fill the blank you left when u said they only had 3 albums and thus dont care that much about money.

as i think ive repeatedly pointed out, i dont think linkin park fans like them for the lyrics, but because that is what they are exposed to through the radio and music videos and as they became a sensation more people began to like it. i could make a band that sounded exactly the same as linkin park (and i certainly could with minimal effort in instrumental, vocal, and lyrical departments with 2-3 high school buddies) and would never become mainstream or liked by anyone because i wouldnt get radio play or music videos aired. if i ever did somehow, my career would skyrocket itself and people would think i was omgsupergood because of my success.

i personally believe that artists such as linkin park and most other numetal, pop-punk, etc. usually have the main goal of profit and the side goal (if it is even existent) of producing art or expressing themselves creatively.

cuz they sold out a while ago after that weird transition from jokey 240bpm songs in their older days to songs that made much more sense musically with You'll Rebel to Anything. the title track of that cd is all about their hatred for bands like linkin park and mcr that are popular but ****ty and have poorly written emo-esque lyrics. which of course is why the tour is so painfully ironic and honestly i hate to imagine all the emo posers who hang out at my arcade starting to listen ti msi XD

I'm afraid I've already done both due to the fact that I really enjoy this album. Every song on it. What shall I do with my life now that Demon_Of_The_Comet disagrees with my musical tastes?

Just got the CD yesterday. I don't like it as much as Hybrid Theory, but I still really enjoy it.

Old School Green Day was just fine. Its just when they came out with that lame *#& album that went like super mainstream.

In any case, decent cd, you just have to either have that kind of musical taste or you have to understand real music and at least a little bit of music theory to appreciate it. I hate to say it, but aside from 1 or 2 of the songs i think you have to be at least a little bit ignorant to music if you dislike them.
