I donīt doubt the importance and gravity of the subject or the sincerity of your feelings, but the poem is just lacking in all respects: its form, its choice of words, its complexity, its tone etc. You have much to learn.

Haha, this postmodernist taste-argument is ridiculous and I encounter it every single day, even amongst intellectuals. Not everything is a matter of taste; there is also such a thing as quality, objective quality. Preaching the postmodernist mantra of subjectivity and cultural relativity is ill-founded and even dangerous in the same way as French existentialism was: it situates everything beyond human judgment and therefore justifies sick cultural practices, expressions or products as mere signs or signifiers of taste. Too bad even the moderator of a literary forum has succumbed to this populist feeling that is antithetical to all true art and artistry.

Sorry, you're not making any sense. You pseudo-ironically comment on things I have not said, nor even implied. And if indignation over injustice is called arrogance nowadays, then so be it.

Funny, no experience/demonstration of skill eh? ive been published three times in various books, including a treasury of classic american poems, won four State sponsored essay contests totaling over 2500 dollars in the past two years, got runner up in a highly competitve northwest regional essay comp and aced my AP/Sat/ACT writing scores.....

and its not that those of you who didnt win didnt have amazing entries..i just liked those two for their unique style.....they made me think outside the box....
besides, i am kinda partial to poetry.....sry, its just my general interest, get over it.....

I'm not saying your poem is bad, because it's certainly better than half of the hideous poetry clogging through the veins of Lit lately, but getting pissy over the fact that you didn't win a single-round writing contest called a "tournament" (hint for the slow: look for it in a dictionary) organized by some guy with absolutely no writing experience or knowledge demonstrated to the community thus far shows that you clearly can't comprehend the finer intricacies and complexities of basic brain function.

it was gonna be several rounds, but i got lazy

                    get the hell over yourself

god, ever heard of not double posting. :OO

Whatever, this little contest seems to be giving many of those who participated enormous egos, or their self esteems were belittled by the opinions and comments of other spectators. Great job guys! (partial sarcasm).

And Callipygian, get over your supposed "superiority" in knowledge and how you are trying to make us, the users of FFR, feel bad because we didn't approve of your material, or so I have read. The fact is, you really must not be as smart as you say if you are willing to put your writings on a FORUM with many YOUNG PEOPLE including myself and expect recognition for you doing that. You must either be more of a dumbass (or neanderthal if you feel smart) for doing this or your writing cannot be comprehended at any level of knowledge. THERE IS A REASON WHY YOU AREN'T GETTING RECOGNITION.

                        Excuse me, what?

I believe my thing says CHAT MOD.

Does this look like a chat to you, sir?

                        Anyway...

                        Example:

I like modern art but you think modern art is crap. You like Roman art and I hate it.

I, therefore, have a greater liking (taste) for modern art than Roman art.

Damn, I wrote a lengthy reply but my comp crashed. Anyway, it came down to this: those who have ridiculed my pathetic outbursts of emotion have been right to do so, although the suggestion that I am a pseudo-intellectual, covering up his empty thoughts with big words, is ill-founded. I have a considerable cognitive intelligence, yet clearly my social and emotional intelligence failed me here.

I am still unpleasantly surprised by the choice for the soldier poem, but I realise that my reaction was inappropriate, rash, and utterly useless. Also, as for the taste argument, let's not bicker about that; sure, there's a thing called taste, but my point was that this argument often tends to reduce everything to a mere matter of subjective preferences.

To mcdiddy, yes, I do get recognition, don't worry about that, but I understand your idea, because if I am appreciated, wouldn't it be sad to defend my ego here on a gaming forum? Ehm, ye, as I said, I got impulsive, had had a bad day, blabla, weak excuses. Apologies for my misconduct and I suggest we stop throwing mud. I like the idea of chaz to organise a more professional art contest. Let me know if there is something I can help with.

                            Peace,
