Their catfood addiction perhaps? Or maybe those Africans were killing them and such before they got the opprotunity and scared the Prawns too much?

Yea, I know we could all think of a bunch of reasons as to why. That doesn't mean it wasn't not explained in the movie.

True but I assume that's the intention, we were likely supposed to fill these holes ourselves. I personally have and have no issues.

        Regardless, kickass movie.

It was pointed out several times in the movie that the aliens weren't very smart, for the most part followed orders, and lacked a leader. That's why they didn't just go on a killing spree. Besides - when it started (the segregation of aliens), they were getting medical attention and food. It was a gradual change into District 9. District 9 was the ninth iteration of the refugee camp, as the new one set up in the movie was referenced as District 10.

In short, that one was explained.

And before you say, "wat, lol, they would have revolted anyway," odds are, they wouldn't have. The MNU had them under tight control at that point anyway.

EDIT: Plus, they detained any aliens with weapons, not all of the aliens had weapons, and they were grossly outnumbered.

DOUBLE EDIT: Plus, any alien that fought back (that we saw) was quickly killed, or detained. And while we were never shown exactly where they were taken, it's safe to assume it was to the MNU basement, where they were experimented on, etc.

A lot of stuff required some suspension of disbelief. Not the least of which being aliens.

A really good movie, I found myself quite entertained at all the parts in which something gross was not happening, like losing fingernails. They didn't put a ton of emphasis on the gross stuff though.

It all seemed very well thought out and natural. Excellent progression.

I will bet you a subbie they will. Also seen the movie the day it came out wasn't what I was expecting at all I didn't enjoy the main character that much although maybe he wasn't the main character...hm. Anyways I seriously hope there is a sequel because the ending leaves with some very important parts left open.

not sure how correct this is, as there was actually a real district 6 and the movie was inspired by the events that happpened in said district, one could argue that 9 was simply numbering off of past unrelated districts and not nessecarly a progression. no real way to tell for sure.

                        That's highly possible.

                        ALSO:

                        The director said:

                        SPOILERS

They are a hive species, and before the movie, they lost their queen. Since they are only drones, they are not thinkers. The hive restructures on Earth out of necessity, hence Christopher and Son becoming great thinkers, etc.

                        END SPOILERS

Also, all of Wickus's dialogue was improvised.

I saw the movie today. (: I like how they didn't exaggerate the blood & gore scenes like many movies do.

I'm not sure if they will make a sequel... I assumed they felt like ending it that way since we can probably be imaginative as to what would happen after the climax. I could be wrong, though.

                            Re: District 9?

I just saw it. Great movie.

Definitely one of the best I've seen in a long time. The suspense was killing me throughout most of the film. Heart was racing. Very intense film.

It was pointed out several times in the movie that the aliens weren't very smart, for the most part followed orders, and lacked a leader. That's why they didn't just go on a killing spree.
                            I interpreted it this way:

Humans wouldn't be very smart either in a similar scenario. How many of us know how things like computers even work? Yet, we use them anyway. Who here could build portions of a car and then fix the original? I'm sure nobody can, though, we all drive.

How would we get any of this going again if we ran into problems? Most of our technology has been handed to us on a silver platter by a very tiny minority of humans that are far more intelligent than the rest of us.

Take a million of us and strand us on some planet with another advanced species, slightly less advanced than we are, and it probably won't seem so easy to just 'fight back' and take everyone out and escape. I mean...

                            1. Most of us would be scared ****less - how many of us have military training? I know I personally don't want to die and you won't see me running out guns a blazin'. Sorry, if you gave me and some of my buddies an M-16, I would not seriously try to fight back against an army of 10,000 guys on horses with crossbows. It's not that simple.

                            2. How many of us would even know how to go about getting our ships up and running again? How many computer scientists/chemical engineers/propulsion physicists are you going to find in a sample of 1 million? Very few. Even if you had a few, how are you supposed to work on fixing these problems in these kind of conditions?

                            3. We're vastly outnumbered by a species we have immense problems communicating with.

The whole scenario in the film was portrayed in a pretty realistic and sophisticated manner, IMO. Very well done.

Yeah but aliens tend to work differently from people. They mentioned that all the survivors were pretty much drones in the most literal sense of the word. They were treated like wild animals throughout most of the movie.

So was Christopher Johnson a surviving leader or was he just abnormally intelligent for a drone?

That's the only part I haven't figured out.

                              EDIT
The hive restructures on Earth out of necessity, hence Christopher and Son becoming great thinkers, etc.
Oh, okay, that makes enough sense for me.

Well, they suspected they were drones, but they don't know that. My point was more or less that, you nor I would consider ourselves drones, but in that context humans can be viewed the exact same way. We'd be just as helpless and feral in a similar scenario. Most of us just go to work and come home. We know absolutely nothing about how our technological society actually works and what we could do in this sort of scenario. It would be chaos.

I would suspect Christopher came down from the mother ship in the vehicle when it dropped? He was probably one of the leaders in command, a 'scientist' of some sort with the knowledge to go about doing something. He mentioned that he had been working on it for 20 years, so he was obviously very knowledgeable from the beginning.
