Trance tends to be a slower, smoother sounding music also. It typically is not as fast paced as most "dance" music is. Trance also might have words in them but if it does, it will most likely be only a few words repeated in the background. Dance could include anything from a dj's remix of a mainstream song to a fast paced techno song completely made by them.

Trance also distiguished from techno from the mood of the music itself. Techno tends to be happy, while trance will have a "mystic" feeling (hard to explain with words).

Basically, dance is a generic term used to classify a large range of electronic music. It was created by corporate companies to sell records. Dance is anything that has a strong steady thumping bass beat that can easily be danced to. Trance has a strong steady thumping bass beat that can easily be danced to...therefore Trance could fall under the category dance.

If you want Trance music, listen to Oceanlab, Above and Beyond, Dj Tiesto and stuff like that.

Trance is a style of electronic music that developed in the 1990s. Trance music is generally characterized by a tempo of between 130 and 160 bpm, featuring repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track, often crescendoing or featuring a breakdown. Sometimes vocals are also utilized. The style is arguably derived from a combination of largely electronic music such as ambient music, techno, and house. It combines the house beat from House, mixes it with the soft synth pads and 'mystic style' Ambient Music is well known for, and adds the sound effects Techno has. A mix between the best of all 3 genres. 'Trance' received its name from the repetitious morphing beats, and the throbbing melodies which would presumably put the listener into a trance-like state. As this music is almost always played in nightclubs at popular vacation spots and in inner cities, trance can be understood as a form of club music.

Electronic dance music is a style of popular music commonly played in dance music nightclubs, radio stations, shows and raves. The term dance music is usually used for more commercial forms of Electronic dance music. However, both dance music and electronic dance music is made electronically for dancing. Styles include house, Eurodance, jungle, hip house, trance, techno, funk, garage, and many others. So basically, Trance is derived from Dance (aka. Electronica). Trance is just naming a more specific section in the wide world of Electronic, which was explained in the first paragraph. I actually personally compose Trance, so I'd know the difference. Hope this helps
