I would love some feedback on how it sounds. I already fixed a volume problem.
Absolutely amazing for someone that did this in one day. My main three issues are 1) I think you used too much reverb (the echo is extremely apparent), 2) initial rubato/slowdown is stilted, I think, and might work better with it removed 3) the sounds run together and create a kind of muddy sound that happens when you say something too close to a microphone.

Even still, this is great. I would step this even with no changes made to it.

Agreed. The sound is very nice overall though. sleepless - Have you stepped it yet?

I'm glad to hear that. Since I directly input tempo changes based on what was coded into the MIDI itself, the stilt that you hear in the beginning is as far as I know the way the MIDI was meant to be played, but I'll remove it. I'll also take out the delay plugin and turn down the verb in general. The muddy sound is an interesting problem though; since I believe this soundfont is an actual Steinway that was recorded into banks, what's happening is that since the notes are triggering so closely to each other, you ARE in fact probably hearing the feedback of recording the notes from the real piano through a mic. The only thing I can do is reduce the volume that those notes are triggering; messing with the EQ seems to very quickly destroy the natural image of the piano sound. I'll apply some fixes and update this post later, probably with one of the Alkans as well.

As for now, having stayed up all night doing that and despite my name, I need to ****ing sleep.

          EDIT:

The only problems I had with it were the ritardandos near the beginning and the end. I have not ever looked at the sheet music, but I have never heard it played that way. Other than that, there was way too much echo.

Overall it was amazing. Good job.

maybe we're looking at this the wrong way

maybe people should get better at syncing

another interesting idea is setting up a metronome to headphones and playing the piano along that. that way, you keep relatively in time and still have good quality sounds

Maybe. It was mentioned before that classical is very difficult to sync, even with DDReam. True, but at least DDReam made what used to be darn-near impossible, quite doable. I have synced/tested many classical songs using DDReam, and I'm positive that syncing can be done many times faster and with a greater degree of precision than pure-sync by ear.

If anyone needs tips on how to use the program to sync classical, let me know.

Right now even with DDReam syncing classical is still pretty difficult. Plus, the program is not integrated with SM so for people that are very effective file makers with the SM editor like myself DDReam becomes a burden. I tried syncing "Cast Down the Heretic" with DDReam and it was more effective to just sync it manually using F7/F8. Also, since I don't use Windows I have to log on to a Windows machine every time I want to use DDReam.

The most effective feature DDReam could have is a feature that turns every tapped note into a BPM change closest to the primary BPM, so for example if I tap out every note as the way it actually is (so that you'd have lots of 64ths/48ths/32nds/24ths/16ths/etc due to the rapidly varying sync) on some specified BPM the feature would quantize every note into 4ths using BPM changes. However, I think this feature could be implemented into the SM editor.

Still, this type of post is a distraction because we clearly have people offering to make remastered mp3s and they've managed to do it efficiently.

I am not going to look for a MIDI, (which would not take long) but I happen to know a great performance.

No, I do not know why they filmed part of the song upside-down.

EDIT: Here are a few MIDIs:

http://www.classicalmidiconnection.c...3/lisgnome.mid (I think this one is the best.)
