RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Beliefs

I live in the South as well. What you're doing is stereotyping a group of people based on a the actions of a few (Southern Baptists (the Nazis of Christianity)). Next to none of the denonminations believe what you just stated all of them believe.

      Q

EDIT: How does one consider himself better when he stereotypes a group to be racist? Isn't that hypocritical?

My point was simply that a without a God there would be no good or evil. There would be no right or wrong. In short, there would be no standard to which humans would feel accountable and, therefore, humans would be deviod of any morality.

How else would we have even begun to develope that concept?

Oh, it could have been instinct. It could have been common sense. My non theological theory is that it was most likely an aspect of early civilation put into our minds in order to keep the small bands together (murder is punished in order to keep the population size up).

Right and wrong/good and evil/morality would just be according to society, rather than to the Bible. People would label things as bad if they made people unhappy, and those ideas of not doing bad things would spread, and there would be morality based on society. Just look at groups of godless people. They could develop just as well as any other people.

What? Those laws were not revoked. It may not be as severe, but it was never revoked.

Homosexuality is still bad. You shouldn't shun people or anything since
there are gay, but you should never act on gay tendencies.

They were replaced with the two Greatest Commandments given in Matt 22:38. Basically, Christianity doesn't follow the laws of Israel at all for the very fact that better, more Christian ideals were given to us by Christ.

Yes. Did you also know that it's been through so many different translations that you should never take what it says at face value?

                          Q
In response to this, Paul tells the Church in Ephesians that "among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or any kind of impurity, or greed, becasue these are improper for God's holy people (New International Version, Eph 5:3)." Now, quite obviously, he is not asking the Ephesians to be perfect, becasue that would be impossible. As humans we all sin. Even Christians. The difference is that the Church should not condone or continue in sin. How do we know what sin is? Romans tells us "I would not have known what sin was except through the law (Rom 7:7b)." Though Christians do exercise freedom in the ritual aspects of the Jewish law (don't have those verses memorized, but could look up), the moral standards found in the old testement are obviously still applicable.

rtt7, I want to thank you outright for finding actual passages. I don't know many myself and someone who doesn't say "it's somewhere in there" is much more respectable.

Now, what is wrong with greed? Is it not what drives all humans? I use greed as much as any other person to decide what is best for me. And what is best for another person (assuming that they too feel greed).
