But anyway - Get the simplest plan you can. I know most people like monthly plans with no extra fees, so. You could always try to go for that.

Anyways, think of it as a cell phone that has only one ability: to ring. Pagers just beeped to let you know someone "beeped" you. They were the rave in the 80's or so. I don't know if you ever watched that cartoon "Hey Arnold!" back in the 90's or so, but I think Helga's father owned a pager company. Just to let you guys know, I'm talking out of knowledge, not experience. XDComment

I hardly ever use my cell phone. It's very old and works fine. I tend to communicate mostly with people on the computer rather than phoning. The only time I ever use my phone is to call family or if I really really need to talk to a friend who lives far away.

I can agree with Samsung, my two longest-lasting phones were both Samsungs, one was a flip phone that survived a teacher hurling it into a locker, the screen did get damaged, but that only strengthened my skills in reading by context as far as texting went.
As for plans, if they have metroPCS in your area, get it. No contract, unlimited talking, texting, and internet for like $50 a month. The only downside to it is that the phones cost a lot, but in your case since you don't really care for a fancy phone you should be able to get one for $50 or so, but that's what you get when you don't sign a contract. A lot of people talk down on metroPCS but I haven't had dropped calls or bad signals noticeably enough to complain. I believe phone maintenance is free, too.
