Well some parents don't understand since most of the time they don't play and yeah getting on a bit every day may not be a lot for you or anyone else that plays but to your parents that could seem like an obsession. But in my opinion, as long as it's not affecting your lifestyle or you physically/mentally I'd say keep playing.

Just finish everything you can do in the game and then you'll get bored.

Re: Obsession with FFR? There is no such thing!

When I started playing piano 3 years ago, my teacher said I had an unusually high dexterity and that years from then I'd be scaring people if I put my mind to it. Over the years, games like FFR, Step, PIU, ITG, DDR, and various others have introduced me to all genres of music and improved my rythmic understanding in general. Without that, I would have been semi-retarded learning music, and probably wouldn't have pursued it for more than a month or so. Now I play piano and FFR lots. I feel great.

Edit: Basically, playing FFR lots is cool so long as you benefit from it in another way. Otherwise you've just been having fun here in that FFR has no substantial monetary prizes for competitions. (Thus, FFR is useless unless the understanding gained is used to improve your abilities in the real music world.)

Edit2 (sry for massive edits): checked ur profile. Says you have a band. There u go lol. You play music or tap to music all the time. What's wrong with that?

The only time you can determine how addicted to FFR you are is when you try to quit .

I read an article about how playing rhythm games makes you better at math.

Can't seem to find it, but I think there was a thread about it somewhere around here...

Re: Obsession with FFR? There is no such thing!

I'm not obsessed. Rather, If I could find anything better to do with my life, I wouldn't be on the forums 24/7.

In short, FFR is not an obsession. It's currently my life. Chances are, it'll stay that way until my late 20s. I'm 16 atm.

Until then, I plan to do anything I can to contribute to FFR. I currently am, in my own opinion. It's a good thing I can be of use by knowing Japanese. It may not be as much as the staff or the simfile/music artists, but it's more than a good 50% of the people here.

Also, my mom understands completely well. She has 9 goods on the official tourney song this round.

No of course there is no such thing as FFR obsession!...

until you find yourself using every spare moment you get to play FFR and eventually losing all of your friends and your family forgetting about you. The only happiness you'll get is the satisfying tappity tap tap sounds of your keyboard. Soon that won't be enough, and you'll be downloading stepmania or even playing the real DDR. After a while, THAT won't even be enough, and you will have so much arrows pumping through your system that it could lead to...

Obsession with any hobby is possible. FFR is no exception. Let's be realistic, man. If you close your eyes and see FFR arrows running up that black screen of your eyelids a lot of the time, you've got a problem. And if your grades are slipping or your work performance dropping, you've got a problem. Same goes for social aspects. If it often keeps you from doing things outside with friends that you know you would be doing had you not been playing FFR, you've got a problem. Otherwise, go for it, as much as you can.

Get your grades up and exercise more. If you really are obsessed with FFR and your grades and fitness dropped because of it, you should know that some of the best FFRers like MrRubix, Reach, and others on ODI have very good grades and are quite fit. (not sure about Rubix on the fit part, but I wouldn't doubt it.)
