If I remember correctly, this movie isn't actually based completely on the bible. The bible didn't make some of the direct references of Jews killing Jesus that are in the movie. Many of the facts and scenes in the movie are based on a psychotic nun's views and writings from the 18th century. I dont know enough info about it right now, but I heard it somewhere and as soon as I find a way to prove it I'll show it to you guys. (Don't bother to disagree with this until I find some proof)

The one thing I do know is that back then there were no Christians as we know them today, the religion was formed after Jesus' death, so whenever the bible said Jews its practically talking about pretty much everyone back then. Pretty big misunderstanding if you ask me...

You can't possibly understand the magnitude of what Jeus did for you...they teach you in the prissy little Sunday school that "Jesus died for our sins on the cross, blah blah blah, who gives a damn"

The movie (which I have seen unlike ninetey-nine percent of all you anti-Christian nutcases) shows how powerful Jesus' sacrifice was. Jesus dying on the cross meant something. So I think the violence is necessary, it's brutal but it's also necessary because it shows how important his death on the cross was, and it shows us just how much he gave up for us

As for that review...think whatever you want. I find anti-Mormon stuff hilarious (frickin' heretics) but anything that goes against my religion like that...well, you must understand that it's impossible for me to find it funny.

im nnot very religious either but when i saw this movie (ur not alone sinjin) i began to realise the sacrifice that he had made just for us and how little we appreciate what he did for us...like someone said be4...(forgot who)...how we go to sunday school and dont even care about what their teaching us....

sumthign else that was sad was that when he was being tortured with the second thing...which didnt need to go on for 10 fucking minutes...is that mary had to watch all of this...but she knew how this was all happenening for the better and didnt intervein(sp?)

i recomend that everyone should go and see it just to see how much he suffered for all of us

Guys, Im not disagreeing that this is a very emotional movie and should help Christians realize how special this person was and how much he did for everyone, Im disagreeing with its anti-semitism. (Ya, Im Jewish, sry ) For example, the ruler in Rome at that time wasn't some nice, kind and upbeat person who was "forced" into killing Jesus by a Jewish mob. There are historical documents, as Anti said, that prove what a terrible ruler he was, and also that he crucified around 500 people (such as Jews) before Jesus. Also, pretty much everyone around that time was Jewish in Rome, because dont forget that Christianity wasnt a religion yet during that time, it was being formed. Third thing, one that im still not completely sure about so dont argue about this until I get some proof, is that some of the scenes in the movie arent based on what is written in the bible but actually based on the writings of a psychotic nun in the 18th century. I know it sounds stupid, but I have heard rumors and as I said if I find some proof I will show it to you guys.

SO, i get into church, and I'm reading our little newsletter thing they print when I come across this.

Dear Friends in Christ,

PEople have already asked me about the mocir, "The Passion of Christ". And now that I have seen it, what I think about it and would I recommend it, and whether the criticisms of it as anti-Semitic are fair. It is always best to get things out in the DeiLights [the newsletter], so I thought it best to write a little comment.

You have perhaps heard that the film is graphic in its portayal of Jesus suffering and death. It has also been accused of being prejudiced, in its treatment of the Jewish role ion Jesus death. I did find the film to be violent and graphic in its display of human sadism toward Jesus who is defenseless. The makeup used to show injuries is also realistic. What exactly Jesus suffered is of curse unknown to us. It is likely that the film is accurate in its portrayal the brutality of Roman rule. The film continually leaves aside the violence with scenes of past events or the stories of Jesus Mother or disciples, making it easier ot watch and enlightening about the people in the passion story.

Throughout the film we see the horrible treatment human beings give to each other and which is part of the Biblical account of Jesus death. Throughout the film we see Jesus responce of lovingand resolve to do the will of the Father as the scriptures proclaim. What I was most pleased with was Mel Gibson's use of the film to point to those who took pity on Jesus suffering, Jews and Romans, and those who wished for justice to be done, Jews and Romans. I came away feeling that this is an impossible story to tell to others if my goal is to tell it in a way pleasing to people's sensibilities. As one who preaches the story I thinking the only way to tell this story is to be bold and stay as close to the Biblical account as possible. this accomplished you can, as Gibson has done, open up some of your own vision along side the story, to say how it has affected you.

People will be talking about this movie. If you see it, it will help you shape your faith and knowledge of Jesus. If you look at the comments that people have made about the film and its creator, and see it yourself, you will be able to shape htoughts about where our faith fits in our society. I hope we can have some groups see the film together. If violence troubles you, wait for the video and try a little at a time or fast forwarding through the violence.

...there's nothing to discuss, really. Your pastor didn't take a stand on any issue regarding the movie, he simply stated what everybody knew already- it focuses on Jesus's death and the sacrifice he made, and is uber violent. He doesn't even address the issue of anti-semitism, although he mentions quelling the rumors in his first paragraph.

in the past 30 years indians have been portrayed as ruthless killers...are those films controversial?
correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard that the once killers (whether jews or not) feel remorseful after killing him in the movie...like when the guy went into solomon's temple and saw the ripped curtain(secondhand info from friend)
