@People telling me to stop using Norton: Personally I don't even need antivirus software, although I'd rather keep the antivirus software I'm using in decent shape if anything. There has only been one time the computer had a virus out of the two years my family has had it (although our other computer hasn't had the same luck x__x).

Yeah yeah, you might have your stuff about "rofl maybe Norton hasn't detected it", well the computer is running fine and fast so I personally don't care if there IS a virus.

And yeah, I'd love to try out linux, but this isn't even my own computer. I'll probably do something with linux on my first computer that'll be mine.

It's pretty much a CD version of Linux, and it's pretty neat, packed with GIMP, OpenOffice, Mozilla, Konqueror, those games you play at your office when you're bored, and that's just the stuff that a non-Linux freak would use. Hell, you can even install Knoppix into your computer if you know how, although I don't know why you would want to.

You can also use it for when your computer crashes, which I've done once a long time ago. Usually when your computer crashes it's Window's fault and everything else is perfectly fine, so when you pop Knoppix into your CD-drive, you can get to your documents and retrieve important files, access the internet, and do whatever.

Microsoft is just trying to stop the problem before it gets bigger

its mostly a scare tactic on the computer inept (a very large group of windows user)

Freeware games can be incredibly fun.


Ever hear of a game called doukutsu monotagari? It's quite fun.

Maple Story is free, so techinically it's freeware, I dunno, I think people may actually, well, play that.

They tried this last year. To make it so XP only updates if you're using a Genuine XP product. The workaround was posted within 24 hours. So their weeks / months of effort to make this "Genuine XP Product checker" was ruined in under 24 hours.

But if your version of windows wasn't genuine, and you downloaded the older update... your computer wouldn't be getting any new updates, aka this new one. What? Wow they're retarded.

If you have to pirate Windows, you're a moron. It comes standard on 99% of market computers (so I assume). That's all.

I was actually thinking about that before, but I forgot that people ACTUALLY STILL USE computers so old they once had Windows 98 running on them. I think it's more or less because people aren't going to spend $300 to TOTALLY outpower their old computers that run on 20 GB harddrives and 64 RAM because the only benefit those dumbass people see is Windows XP; so they pirate a copy.

My computer is all different parts from my old computer.

It's still the same computer, if that makes sense though.

And yeah, all it does is pop **** up that tells me the copy isn't legit. I hope it doesn't pop up while I'm playing MS. If it does, I will murder Microsoft for doing it and my father for installing it.

I had a computer wtih a 512 MB Hard disk and an 8MB ram (back in 1995)
We still have the computer, but the RAM was upgraded to a whopping 40MB

Wow, and all I thought it did was regulate your ability to acquire updates or something. I'll have to look into things and see if there's a way to remove/prevent that.

PS Do you know when your dad installed it? You could do a rollback. Start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. It is the redo button for computers that you wish you had for life. It has saved my computer, the school computer lab, etc. many times.

Yeah, he just did a system restore from like a week ago when I told him that it was useless and there was no reason to have it.
