I was once a victim to something close to this, only it was a "nuke". Some guy said download this and click it and you can boot people off of irc! So I did. And the program ran deltree. It only deleted about half of windows. Ended up formatting.

I got it from axlecrusher on SMO. With him being a programmer and all, I didn't know. Luckily, I had just ran a spybot test that day which creates a system restore point, so I was saved.

I still have the file if anyone has the need to check it out. All it did to me was make it impossible for me to open task manager.

EDIT: The one i got was a MS-DOS application called "gallery"...

You know what's effed ? That recent buddies thing on aim. People who I don't know are automatically added to my list. Generally, I use send/get file. No direct connections and I never ever open anything from people I don't know.

Question: Is this virus an IE thing or mozilla firefox....?

It's not a client, it's just a link that is sent to you. You can only get infected by clicking the link (and downloading the file? i'm not sure)

You aren't immune from the virus trying to be sent to you, but for all I know trillian could prevent the spread.

I got on AIM specifically to get sent one of these... and I failed.

Darn. I want a virus too. I've only had like 50 people fail miserably on my Yahoo e-mail account daily in recent days.

"Delivery Failure Notification!" 45k e-mail with an attachment. GG. I wish I actually sent e-mails.
