ISP contacting is the only sure way !!
perhaps synth could appoint a trusted someone to do this once a month like you said!Comment

I can't believe this has gone 3 pages and I'm the first one to suggest this:
How about an "ignore user" option in the chat? If someone is spamming, click ignore user on their name, and you don't see anything they type and you can't talk to them/them to you. It's the absolute easiest solution to all the problems mentioned here. When you leave the chat, it erases your ignored list (Ie: you have to do it every time you go in the chat, it's not static)
Given the amount of time Synth has, I don't know how easy/possible this would be to implicate. From what I've heard that Synth didn't create the chat but rather bought it/optained it from somewhere else and is waiting for the new version, it simply may not be possible.
In that case, more mods are needed. There's a bunch of regulars who (granted, are a bit weird, but who isn't) are more then capable of modding, but it would create more stability in the chat.
In review:
Short term solution: more mods
Long term solution: "ignore user" feature
Thanks.

RE: Re: RE: Re: It
Ok, here is the situation.
If the chat annoys you, don't use it. It is not for everyone.
For the 6 months prior to the current chat, I tried both an IRC based chat module and php based polling type chat. Neither chat option had more than 3 users on at any time.
Mic/Video/Text based chat will draw the largest crowd you cannot argue this. LD and I have found other websites that talk about and recommend our online chat.
I am awaiting new features and updates to this chat but there is currently no expected release date. The company that created and maintains the chat software has continously provided FFR with favor after favor and deserve applause for their support.
Spam is a huge problem but would be a problem on the IRC or any other place if the person is determined enough. To date I have had 3 and possibly 4 people get their internet connections disconnected permanently because of the troubles they have caused. I have an IP ban list that is 300 IP's long but to the determined spammer it is just a matter of who has more fight in them, who has more time?
I would also like to remind mods not to insult other mods in the public threads. You guys know the rules.
Cheers,

I think that's a fantastic idea, but can Synth do that? I am under the impression that the chat is PostNuke's creation and their code, and that Synth just uses it so that he doesn't have to write his own chat program. By that token, it'd have to be PostNuke who changes the chat program.
Of course, if Synth has access to the code and can change it here, that'd be cool, but I don't know anything for sure. That's the only reason I can suggest for why the chat hasn't been modified like that.
EDIT: Darn you, Synth, sneaking in there while I write my message. =)

Ignore user option could work, but think of this:
What if you needed to talk to someone about something, and you didn't have their aim/msn etc. and you wanted to talk privately with them? If they have ignored you, you won't be able to communicate with them. What about if you're the one who has ignored someone and they need to speak to you?
That's the only downside I see of an ignore option.

That was quite a humerous night.Originally posted by SynthlightLD and I have found other websites that talk about and recommend our online chat.
I think IRC is better, but like synth said, a lot of users go for the webcams/mics.
The day the chat gets ip/username bans, will be the day the chat will be clean.

I've not been going as much as I used to because of the chaos but if I had the ability to help "stop the madness" so to speak, I would definately be heading to the chat more often like I used to.Originally posted by djsmallsmeh i dunno dinneroll only person i think would really be able to be a good chat mod is jursey because she is liek always there... ive never really noticed you being there during the chaos.Originally posted by dinnerrollThat part about regulars who are a bit wierd but would do a good sounds like me. You're not likely to ignore someone you need to talk to, nor they you. For the most part, you're going to ignore spammers, not anyone who has anything to say. Besides, a reload would solve that problem.Originally posted by JurseyRider734Ignore user option could work, but think of this:

And about more mods: It was a suggestion, not an open invitation to nominate yourself.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: It
I think we should just get the IRC channel back up. It was so much fun, and IRC is simply a great chat. Besides, regulars to the normal chat come to FFR for that only, and never (ok, almost never) to the forums. They wouldn't know about the IRC chat, and would be out of our way.
And even if they find out, it's sooo much easier to boot people from IRC.
