To use RealOne files without the RealPlayer, get Real Alternative:

Also, for people who want a alternative to Quicktime...

The most elegant waste of time is found here.

RE: Re: RE: Which is truely, the best media player?

        And iTunes.
        No.

I absolutely hate iTunes for everything except playing media. It's the only software you can use for your iPod, and I swear to god, it is the most horridly designed, nonsensical, user hating piece of shit I have ever used. It simply does not want me to upload songs. I literally come up with excuses for burning CDs instead of using my iPod because I don't want to deal with it.

Also, besides the fact that downloading from them is a pay service (so, as a matter of principle, I refuse to use it), in an effort to stop CD burning and free P2P filesharing, all of the music is stored in the program. That's right, you cannot access anything you download from iTunes outside of iTunes. Want to burn a CD? Too bad. Want to use a different media player? Sorry. Anything you download from iTunes STAYS on iTunes. Ouch.

I just got BSPlayer and it is awesome. Too bad it doesn't handle avi files so I have to keep divx on my computer :/

BSPlayer should be able to handle .avis fine. Mine certainly does.

Anyway, I use BSPlayer for movies and Winamp for music.

All music should be in MP3 or OGG format in the first place; possibly a lossless format, but nobody has FLACs or anything at this time. Having to convert proprietary formats (.rm) to MP3 is bad.

I try to keep all my rips saved as FLACs. I have 107 FLACs in my media library--the number slowly grows as I get more CDs.
