Holy shit. I wish my parents would have given me a $3500 graduation present.

Although a computer that good would be useless for me anyway, as all I ever do on it is surf the internet and play SM. I'm happy with the one I am using now, which I put together a few months ago for ~$600.

I'll never buy something THAT expensive.... I only spent $1500 on this comp: 4.0 GHz (I customized this one, worth about $1000 but it's just an Athlon XP ), I already got a 19 flat panel monitor, $600 for keyboard, printer with scanner, optical mouse, 4-way speaker with bass, and like $100 left for online games. I din't buy and more RAM, my custom computer got 1 GB, and it's enough. Same for hard drive (160 GB). I got this a year ago but my processor was upgraded a month ago. I'm just testing if having a processor this fast makes a difference. It doesn't. What really matters right now is having a 3Ghz processor at least if you're the online gaming guy.

If you already have a monitor and a decent atx form factor case, you can get build almost any speed comp you want for under 1000 bucks. i got one that suited my habits just fine for 250 (no case, monitor, already had the media drives).

Why would you waste $3500 on a frigging Dell? If you're going to waste money on a manufactured computer, at least get that pretty Alienware logo sitting in your den. Dell rips you off, big time. Plus, they use cheap generic hardware that's meant to "harmonize" with itself, which in essence means it's impossible to upgrade with anything made not by Dell.

Honestly, go return it right now.

My current laptop is a Dell and I'm not particularly happy with it. It was about the best model they had at the time I bought it, cost about $3000 IIRC, but it's only about two years old and I've already had to replace the hard drive and the battery's effectively dead, won't hold a charge past a few minutes. When I had to replace the hard drive I wanted to get a kit to transfer the data from the old one to the new one. Not too big of a problem, Dell sold them, too. But you know what? They sold me a generic kit instead of a kit made specifically for Dell computers which I found out the kit manufacturer does make! How stupid is that? Dell is supposed to have good support, but in my experience that only happens *after* you get a computer automated reply then pass through a first level help person who is of little help. The second person you get is actually helpful. The computer person that my mother's work place uses has also told her that Dell skimps on parts in order to keep cost down -- like if a tower is supposed to have three fans, they only put in two. I'm seriously considering buying my next computer from somewhere else. I haven't been too pleased with this computer. Oh, and yeah, like lightdarkness, I wish my parents could afford to buy me a $3500 computer, too. But sometimes they will split the cost in half with me on some items so I might be able to get them to do that for my next computer which I plan to buy once I graduate (soon).

You could build a comp with an Athlon FX-53, two 74-gig Raptors in RAID 0, a gig of Corsair XMS Platinum memory, a SK8N mobo (IMO the best there is), a Radeon X800 Ultra, and get it all watercooled with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card/7.1 speaker system and a 19" LCD for that much, maybe less. You got ripped BAD.

They say its worth about $5,000 but i doubt its half of that.---It is pretty nice w/ a 240 gig hard-drive and the best video card that i can think of.....it rocks

but yea, building a computer is better then alot of computers you buy
