This isn't the first time they've had civil unrest - you should look up the Orange Revolution sometime. I admit, despite the chaos and violence I have to respect them for forcefully protesting an injustice, as opposed to those here where we bitch about it on Facebook then go back to whatever we were doing before. To be perfectly honest, I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more coverage in the media.

Not to be one of those guys but really if they haven't focused on it at this point they're probably trying to make it hard to find.

or like...they haven't sent reporters of their own out there for fear of safety (unlikely)

Also I know this shit happens, but the pictures are significantly worse than any I've ever seen.

Likely all of the above - after all, oppressive governments around the world don't want their citizens getting any ideas. These pictures may be pretty brutal, but that's just what we're seeing - I would be willing to bet that the ethnic and religious violence going on in the Central African Republic and South Sudan is far worse, but you don't see any pictures or videos from that region of the world.

The reason people in the United States don't outright protest like this, is because governmental implementations that people are in disagreement with, aren't viewed as drastic enough for people to come together in numbers of this kind. The patriot act for example, is ludicrous, but it's simply not *enough* for massive groups of people to come together and protest against, because life seems to go on all the same.

Not entirely related but I grew up thinking I was half Ukrainian (Half Scottish on my dads side) and my grandma and grandpa would always have great homemade Nachynka, Varenyky, and Holubchi. Then one year we were going over the family tree and we asked grandma about her mother and father, and they were both Polish and no one knows where she got the Ukrainian idea from. Though she did say the borders shifted a lot so it was probably what confused her.

Anyways on-topic: Sad situation, Awesome pictures though. Hopefully they will draw some attention in the media as to what is going on over there.
